The History of Supplier Diversity Programs: What You Should Know
The history of supplier diversity has its roots in minority supplier development. President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the most sweeping civil rights legislation since post-Civil War Reconstruction, prohibited racial discrimination in employment and education, and outlawed racial segregation in public places. In 1969, President Nixon’s Executive Orders 11458 and 11625 established the Minority Business Development Agency. Pirtle Construction: The Two Million Dollar Carve-Out
Pirtle is proud to be the construction manager on the Greater Lake Worth High School 03-000. Pirtle, with their SBE sub-consultant MCO Construction, and in collaboration with, The Office of Diversity in Business Practices, held a series of seven customized outreach workshops over the course of 2020. The team conducted one outreach workshop in-person before the COVID-19 pandemic struck. The remaining workshops were held online without a hiccup. Goods & Services Update:
Term Contract for Catalog Discounts, Miscellaneous Janitorial Supplies and Accessories was recently awarded to several vendors. One of the Bid Awarded vendors was South Florida Janitorial and Pool Supply, Inc. a Small Business Enterprise (SBE) certified vendor with the School District of Palm Beach County. South Florida Janitorial & Pool Supply was founded in 1997 by Angie and Tom Blash, who have been residents of Palm Beach County for over 60 years. Angie is President and Chief Financial Officer. Tom is Vice President. “We have been doing business with The School District of Palm Beach since 1998. We were instrumental in helping implement a Green Cleaning program, which helped the district achieve Leed certifications at a number of schools, in addition to saving hundreds of thousands of dollars per year in supply costs. We employ a diverse group of 19 people, with over 150 years of combined experience, many whom have children in the district. “

Over the years, SFJ has grown their business due to excellent customer service, on time delivery, and the implementation of an online user-friendly catalog to assist customers with ease of use and the ability to see products that are offered. Construction Update:
There are currently 11 facility renewal projects on-going across the district, 2 modernizations, 1 addition and 7 minor projects.

Between the months of January and March, 16 FCA projects have been awarded for both Design and Construction Management Services with a total value of $ 12,083,940.00. 10 more FCA projects are expected to be awarded in April both in Design and Construction Management services with a total value of 72 million dollars. All these projects have small business participation requirements.

Meet The Team: Carline Dumornay
Carline is an administrative assistant in our department. Born in Haiti, she always had an interest in history and cultures. Having completed a degree in Medical Technology, Carline longed to travel and explore the different cultures around the world. Looking to pursue her dream, she set out to visit Canada, Mexico, France and the Dominican Republic. Following her travels, she settled in the United States and started building a life in sunny South Florida. Throughout the years, she fostered a passion for religion thus, propelling her to join The Unity of the Faith Seminary in 2018 to obtain a degree in Theology. To this day, Carline is continuing with her studies to deepen her knowledge of the word of God.
