Faculty Spotlight: Sha'Kira Gattison | |
|
As a child, Sha’Kira Gattison wanted to be a pastry chef creating edible works of art appealing to the eyes and taste buds.
In spring, Gattison begins instructing Northeastern Technical College’s culinary program bringing the business side of the food industry to the Cheraw campus.
“I have a lot to give,” Gattison said. “I want to help others who enjoy what they do in the kitchen to learn how to be successful in a business.”
The food industry is a labor of love and those interested in opening a restaurant or operating a food truck become married to their business.
“If you really love to cook and want to have a business, why not do something you enjoy doing,” she said.
Gattison has her own pastry business, Kira’s Kreations.
Her go-to is a red velvet and pecan chewies; with entrée's she a lamb chop person (and steak).

Make '24 your year to find your future
Are you in high school wanting to avoid the crushing debt of a four-year university?
A single parent struggling to break swing shifts or add more to the bank account?
Looking to just leave a desk job learning a valuable skill that pays more and can save you money for personal projects?
Make 2024 your year to level up at Northeastern Technical College.
The difficult part is making the change; signing up for classes is not.
Northeastern Technical College is a school that works for people who make our world work.
Nurses. Truck Drivers. Welders. Industry. These are a few examples.
NETC courses, certificates, and degrees can open many, many doors for its students with a variety of careers.
Speaking of students, the typical NETC student is not an adult teen starting out in the world – we have those enrolled – but many are 30-somethings and 40-somethings who have made a challenging transition from, for good or bad, their comfort zone into a new world.
The Round Up has published stories of homemakers entering the workforce, injured plant worker switching to the medical field after healing, retired law enforcement starting a new career, and new students who were not the best student in high school discovering a passion for learning a decade later.
All it took was acting upon the thought of “what if things were different.”
Try enrolling. Try a class.
The tools are here for anyone to wants to change the course of their lives.
Consider this over celebrating the holidays and make 2024 the year you change the course of your life.
To absent friends and family,
Blaze.
