11 graduate from Practical Nursing Program

Eleven Northeastern Technical College students made a pledge to the nursing profession on December 4, during the practical nursing pinning ceremony held at the college’s main campus in Cheraw.

Graduates include Kayla Blackman of Cheraw, Shania Chambers of Pageland, Rochelle Coit of Bennettsville, Alaysha Commander of Hartsville, Sydney Huffman of Cheraw, Jewel Lane of Cheraw, Laryssa Marshall of Cheraw, Jodi O’Neal of Cheraw, Hailey Preston of Bennettsville, Angela Sanchez of Jefferson, and Audra Sowell of Jefferson.

This was the 33rd class to graduate the 12-month practical nursing program since its inception in 1993.

The nursing students were recognized before family members, friends and college administrators for successfully completing the rigorous program that prepares them to take the National Council Licensure Examination in order to become licensed practical nurses.

Two students were recognized for their achievements in the nursing program. Jodi O’Neal received the Practical Nursing Academic Excellence Award for having the highest grade point average and showing determination, dedication and perseverance. Jewel Lane received the Jean L. Harris Award for Outstanding Clinical Performance for exemplifying “the total nurse” and having superior clinical skills.

Jodi O’Neal spoke to the audience about the journey she and classmates made towards earning their practical nursing certification, and Claudia McCollum, MSN, RNC-OB was the guest speaker for the event.

During the pinning ceremony, each student wears the traditional white nursing uniform and is formally presented with a specially designed NETC nursing pin and a symbolic lamp.

Shania Chambers explained the meaning of each symbol, and told the story of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing, before she and her classmates recited the Nightingale Pledge and performed a ceremonial lighting of their lamps.

NETC’s Interim President Erin Fann, provided the welcoming remarks and thanked friends and family members who provided encouragement and support for those going through the practical nursing program. Dr. Wagner also formally presented the practical nursing class of 2025 to the audience at the closing of the ceremony.

A Road Earned: Local Father Christopher Wilson Celebrates CDL Achievement

For many families, daily life brings a full load of responsibilities. From work to parenting to managing the constant demands of a busy household, it can feel overwhelming. For Christopher Wilson, a devoted father and husband, that full load became the driving force behind something extraordinary.

This week, Christopher proudly earned his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), a milestone he worked toward while balancing a full-time job and being a hands-on parent to his children, including the couple’s nonverbal autistic son. His achievement, built on late nights and unwavering focus, is a testament to resilience and determination.

A Journey of Dedication

At home, Christopher is known for his steady, loving presence. As his wife describes him, he is “an amazing dad to our nonverbal autistic son, and…such an incredible dad to our other boys.” Even with life already full, Christopher dedicated himself to studying and training for his CDL exam, driven by a desire to create new opportunities for his family.

“It hasn’t been an easy road,” his wife shared. “But he’s handled it all with so much strength, patience, and determination.”

Seeing him balance work, fatherhood, and school inspired deep admiration at home. “Seeing him chase his goals, even when life is already full, fills me with so much pride,” she said.

Guided by a Trusted Teacher

Christopher’s success was supported by his instructor, Mr. David Spencer, who taught him the skills needed to earn his CDL. A photo of the two together marks the moment when practice, guidance, and determination came together at the finish line.

A Family’s Love and Pride

For Christopher’s wife, the milestone is more than a professional achievement. It is a reflection of the man she deeply admires.

“He’s not just my husband, he’s my soulmate, my best friend, and the rock of our family,” she said. “He’s shown that with hard work anything is possible when you set your mind to it.”

The accomplishment filled the entire family with pride. “We are all so proud of you,” she wrote. “The boys and I love you more than words can say, and we can’t wait to see where this new chapter takes you.”

A New Chapter Ahead

As Christopher steps into this next phase of his career, his family stands behind him with gratitude and excitement. “We are so proud of you and everything you continue to accomplish,” his wife added. “Thank you for always doing your best for our family. We love you beyond words.”

With determination in his heart and the support of the people who love him most, Christopher Wilson begins his next chapter ready for the road ahead.

NETC Culinary Students Cook Up a Cozy Lunch

The halls at Northeastern Technical College smelled like a cozy kitchen this week as culinary students prepared a comforting lunch for campus staff and faculty.

On the menu were two homemade favorites: chicken noodle soup and vegetable soup. Students worked together chopping vegetables, simmering pots of broth, and making sure everything tasted just right.

Warm yeast rolls were served alongside the soups, adding an extra touch of comfort to the meal.

Staff and faculty enjoyed the lunch and offered plenty of compliments to the culinary team for their hard work and delicious dishes.

NETC’s culinary program plans more meals like this throughout the year, giving students hands-on experience while treating the campus to tasty, student-made lunches.
