Northeastern Technical College’s (NETC) Technical Education faculty members recently attended the 2025 Aviation Technician Education Council's (ATEC) Annual Conference in Norfolk, Va. The event brought together aviation maintenance educators, industry leaders, and policymakers to discuss advancements and challenges in aviation maintenance training.
This opportunity enabled the participants to gain insights into the steps for program development and gain connections for curriculum development, equipment procurement, and collaboration with other educational institutions. The sessions covered a wide array of topics including QA considerations for new FAA regulations, stackable credentials, equipment requirements, emerging standards, and various other subjects.
A key highlight of NETC’s participation was a presentation by Dr. Philip Bos, NETC’s Aviation Maintenance Curriculum Director, titled “Teaching Tough Topics: Innovative Approaches to Challenging Concepts in A&P Education.” Dr. Bos engaged attendees in a collaborative exchange of ideas, sharing strategies for effectively teaching complex aviation maintenance subjects. His session explored the challenges A&P schools face in imparting critical knowledge and skills required of certificated mechanics while highlighting creative solutions employed by both panelists and fellow educators.
NETC’s presence at ATEC 2025 aligns with its ongoing efforts to expand aviation training opportunities. In 2023, the college received $2 million in funding from the South Carolina Senate Appropriations Committee to support the transition of U.S. Armed Forces members into the aviation industry.
By participating in national conferences like ATEC, NETC continues to position itself as a leader in education, ensuring that its students are prepared to meet the industry’s evolving demands.

| | | Trailblazer Golf: Teeing Up New Season | | |
The NETC Trailblazer Golf team recently competed in the 2025 Stitch Golf/SCC Flyers Spring Intercollegiate hosted by Sandhills Community College. The 36-hole event was held at Longleaf Family Golf Club in Pinehurst, NC.
The format was 36 holes of stroke play golf with a 9:15am shotgun start each day. Round one brought about a very windy day with steady winds of close to 20 mph. The sun popped its head out a couple times in the five hours of play, however, the predominantly overcast skies kept the day very chilly. Evan Cox fired a 10 over par 82 while Hunter Lee shot 98 in the difficult playing conditions.
Day two was a bit warmer with sunny skies remaining throughout the round, however, difficult hole locations proved a bit harder for both players with Evan shooting 93 for a total tournament score of 175 while Hunter slipped to a score of 103 for a 36-hole total score of 201.
The golf team competes next week in the Johnson & Wales collegiate event being held at Eagle Chase Golf Club in Marshville, NC.
| | Preserving History: Records Management Training Workshop | | |
NETC Registrar Anne Jones and Assistant Registrar Joy Hicks attended the South Carolina Public Records Association’s (SCPRA) Mid-State Training in Aiken, SC on March 21. The workshop provided valuable insights into SCPRA Basics, the Impact of Records Management, and the importance of preserving history.
As part of the training, Anne and Joy had the opportunity to participate in a complimentary tour of Banksia, a historic home originally built in 1862, and added onto in 1931. This landmark serves as a proud piece of Aiken County history and offered the duo a firsthand look at the importance of historical preservation.
Both Jones and Hicks found the training educational, fun, and inspiring, while also reinforcing the essential role of records management in safeguarding institutional and community history.
