NETC Golf Team Gears Up for a Historic Season

This fall marks an exciting milestone for Northeastern Technical College’s golf program. For the first time in school history, the team will have enough players to field a full roster at tournaments. Coach Roger Mack says this will bring both competition and camaraderie to the course.

Coach Mack, now entering his fourth season, brings over 40 years of golf experience as a PGA professional. While winning is always a goal, his top priority is building strong character in his players both on and off the course.

“My main focus is to sow into these young men’s lives… to help them be better people off the golf course,” Mack said. “That’s the most important role I have.”

A Coaching Approach Rooted in Preparation

Golf, Mack explains, is as much mental as it is physical. He stresses intentional, focused practice, knowing that confidence is built through preparation. “If you practice all facets of the game and prepare properly, you will be ready in competition,” he said.

Practices are held twice a week, running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., mimicking the endurance needed for college-level tournaments, which often span 36 holes over two days.

New Faces, New Energy

With six new golfers joining this season, Mack is eager to see how each player’s skills translate to tournament play. He tailors his coaching to each individual’s experience level, working closely with those without personal instructors and respecting existing coach–student relationships for more seasoned players.

Building a Team Culture

Although many students take online classes and only see each other at practices and tournaments, traveling together for competitions provides opportunities to bond. Mack acknowledges that today’s technology and indoor sports options can keep athletes off the greens, but he encourages his players to get outside and embrace the game in its natural setting.

A Track Record of Impact

Mack recalls a standout success story: former player Brody Tarlton, whose short game improved dramatically under his guidance, leading to a scholarship at St. Andrews University and later a spot at Coker University. “That’s the unforgettable part,” Mack said. “Knowing you have had a positive influence on a player’s life.”

Looking Ahead

With a full seven-player roster, the team will now compete with five golfers at each event, taking the four lowest scores for team standings. “Iron sharpens iron,” Mack said. “Competition makes everyone better.”

He also encourages any student with an interest in golf to give the team a try, no matter their current skill level. “As long as they are breathing, we can have them,” he laughed, noting that athletics significantly boost graduation rates for student-athletes.

NETC’s golf team opens its season in mid-September, and for the first time, will host its own collegiate tournament this fall.

NETC Students Shine at Allied Health & Workforce Credential Ceremony

On August 6, 2025, the spotlight belonged to the students of Northeastern Technical College (NETC) as they proudly walked the stage at the Allied Health & Workforce Credential Recognition Ceremony in the Dillon District 4 Auditorium. Each credential earner’s presence told a story of long hours, hard work, and the determination to build a better future.

The event began with an invocation by Allied Health Instructor Bridget Graham, followed by a warm welcome from College President Dr. Kyle Wagner. Keynote speaker Mr. Dan Bozard reminded students that their dedication has not only earned them credentials but also opened doors to new opportunities.

From mastering life-saving medical skills to gaining technical expertise in high-demand trades, these credential earners proved that commitment and perseverance pay off. Whether learning to draw blood with precision, provide compassionate patient care, weld with accuracy, or repair complex machinery, they put in the effort to make their success possible.

Allied Health Pinning

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Phlebotomy completers beamed with pride as they received their pins, symbolizing their readiness to serve in healthcare roles that change lives.

Workforce Industry Certifications

Credential earners in programs such as welding, electrical, automotive/diesel technology, and machine tooling earned national certifications, equipping them with skills to step directly into the workforce and make an impact from day one.

Family, friends, and faculty filled the auditorium with cheers, celebrating not only the credentials earned but also the obstacles overcome. For many, this ceremony was the result of balancing classes with jobs, family responsibilities, and personal challenges, yet they pushed forward.

The ceremony closed with a recessional, but the credential earners’ journey is just beginning. With their new skills, knowledge, and credentials in hand, these NETC completers are stepping into their communities and industries ready to make a difference.

Celebrating Student Success: NETC Summer 2025 Commencement

Northeastern Technical College (NETC) proudly celebrated the achievements of its Summer 2025 graduates during the commencement ceremony held on Thursday, August 7, at the Dillon School District 4 Auditorium. Family, friends, faculty, and community leaders gathered to honor students who demonstrated dedication, perseverance, and excellence in their programs.

The ceremony featured an inspiring program beginning with the processional and welcome remarks from College President Dr. Kyle Wagner, followed by an invocation by Pastor Raymond Davis III of Great Expectations Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Dillon, SC. Special guests were recognized and Mr. Dan Bozard, former Area Commission Chair, delivered a motivating address to the graduates.

Degrees, diplomas, and certificates were presented across a wide range of programs including Arts and Sciences, University Transfer, Business, Early Childhood, Allied Health, Criminal Justice, Industrial Technology, and dual enrollment high school programs. Students excelled not only academically but also through leadership and community engagement. Several were recognized as honor graduates, Phi Theta Kappa members, and student athletes, highlighting their commitment to excellence.

Faculty and administrators played a key role in celebrating the graduates’ achievements. Dr. Derk Riechers, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dr. Melisa Johnson, Dean of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Robert Schultz, Dean of Allied Health, Dr. Michael Jiles, Dean of Workforce Development, and Mrs. Meirisa Coleman, Dean of Enrollment Management and K-12 Services, assisted with the presentation of credentials. NETC’s commitment to student success was further emphasized through remarks and a special presentation by Dr. Wagner and Mrs. Erin Fann, Vice President of Institutional Advancement.

The College also welcomed its newest alumni and encouraged them to stay connected through the NETC Alumni Association. Chad Vick, Director of Foundation, Grants, and Alumni Relations, shared insights on how graduates can remain engaged and continue to benefit from the network. This milestone marks not just the completion of an academic program but the beginning of a professional journey for each graduate.

NETC continues its mission to prepare the workforce of Chesterfield, Marlboro, and Dillon counties by providing quality education and training in technology, business, health, arts, and sciences. The Summer 2025 commencement reflects the College’s dedication to student achievement, career readiness, and community growth.
