NETC celebrated SC Public Servant Recognition Week May 5–8 with a week full of fun and appreciation for NETC's amazing employees. The college kicked the week off with a refreshing pre-lunch wellness walk around campus where employees could get some steps in and enjoy the fresh spring air.

Throughout the week, the Human Resources team also ran a special “Get to Know Our Employees” email campaign, sharing fun facts and spotlights that helped everyone learn more about their fellow coworkers. On Tuesday, a sweet ice cream social gave everyone a chance to relax and enjoy a cool treat together.

On Wednesday, the college hosted a special appreciation breakfast and recognition ceremony. Employees were honored for their years of service, and awards were given to the Faculty, Staff, and Administrator of the Semester—individuals who go above and beyond for the NETC community.

The week wrapped up on a fun and playful note with a colorful rock hunt, where employees searched the campus for hidden painted rocks. It was a joyful week full of celebration, connection, and gratitude for the dedicated team that helps make NETC such a great place to work and learn.

As part of Employee Appreciation Week, NETC staff laced up their sneakers and hit the pavement for a Wellness Walk around campus! With sunny skies, good vibes, and plenty of laughter along the way, the walk was a refreshing reminder of the power of movement—and the joy of stepping away from our desks to connect with coworkers.

To top it off, every employee was gifted a 40 oz stainless steel tumbler decorated with NETC logos, perfect for staying hydrated in style! It was a great way to say thank you to our amazing team for all they do to keep the college running strong. Cheers to wellness, appreciation, and the best coworkers around!

HERE'S THE SCOOP: YOU'RE AWESOME!

Smiles were big, and the make your own sundaes were loaded with lots of goodies as employees took a break to chill out and celebrate the amazing work they do every day.

ROCKS IN THE WILD

As part of NETC’s employee appreciation week, employees from all NETC campuses searched for “Rocks in the Wild,” a fun scavenger hunt that brought a whole new meaning to campus exploration. Hand-painted rocks were hidden in nooks and crannies in Pageland, Cheraw, Bennettsville, and Dillon.

Those lucky enough to spot a rock were rewarded with a fun prize. “Rocks in the Wild” was more than just a game, it was a great way to get out of the office and engage with fellow coworkers.

The Ball Stops Here... Until Next Year!

NETC held a slam dunk celebration and tailgate potluck as employees gathered for the annual “Ball Passing” ceremony honoring this year’s March Madness bracket champions!

Since 2022, NETC has held a March Madness contest among employees to predict the winners of the NCAA men’s basketball tournaments. This year a separate competition was added for the women's tournament.

The top bracket wins more than just bragging rights, they get the famous “Winner’s Basketball.” These balls are passed from one bracket champion to the next and proudly displayed by the winner for the entire year before being passed on to the next champion.

This year, Robert McLain Jr. from NETC's Security Department was the winner of the men’s bracket. He received the ball from last year’s champ, NETC Marketing and PR Coordinator, Shannon Justice, who had held it since her 2024 victory. Robert will now display the ball proudly in his department until next March rolls around.

This year was the first time the college held a bracket challenge for the women’s NCAA tournament. Shannon Justice won the bracket, becoming the first-ever women’s bracket champion and the only person so far to win both tournaments.

The basketball continues to gain signatures and stories each year, and will certainly become a treasured tradition. March Madness is about more than just basketball, it’s about community, fun, and a little healthy competition.

Wastewater Professionals Attend

Re-Certification Training at NETC

Licensed wastewater operators from Crown Cork & Seal and Schaeffler USA recently completed a 12-hour Wastewater Re-Certification Course at Northeastern Technical College. The course is designed to provide industry professionals with essential updates on regulatory compliance, emerging operational strategies, troubleshooting techniques, and best practices in wastewater treatment.

Facilitated by Continuing Education Instructor Todd Garris, the two-day training session supports the continuing education requirements for license renewal while reinforcing the knowledge and skills necessary to operate safe, efficient, and compliant wastewater systems.

Coach Mack: Trailblazer Golf Update

The NETC golf team just returned from the NJCAA Division II Southeast District Golf Tournament which was held at The Golf Club of Bristol in Bristol, TN. The weather for the tournament was truly “Chamber of Commerce” perfection, sunny and 75!

The par 71 golf course was in good shape although the greens had not fully recovered from the harsh winter. Therefore, putting was a challenge for all the competitors.

Evan Cox had a solid tournament performance. He fired rounds of 77-79-87 to finish 38th for the event. Evan finished the event tied for 7th for the most birdies made in the tournament with 10.

Hunter Lee finished up his golfing career for NETC with rounds of 97,96, and 93 landing him in 54th place for the tournament. My thanks go out to Hunter for his dedication and hard work on his golf game over the past two years. Thank you Hunter! I wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

This was the golf team’s final event of the Spring season. Tyler and I are meeting with several prospective players that, hopefully, will be attending NETC this Fall. We are excited with the talent of these new recruits and can’t wait to see how the team shapes up for the Fall season.
