Ten Northeastern Technical College students made a pledge to the nursing profession on December 5, during the practical nursing pinning ceremony held at the college’s main campus in Cheraw.

Graduates include Jasmine Allen, Kalia Bowman, Jodie Lachelle Braswell, Laney Cullipher, Mariah Lloyd, Amaya Smith, Chriseon Smith, Lavonia Stacks, Maniya Tyson, and Destiny Welch.

This was the 32nd class to graduate the 12-month practical nursing program since its inception in 1993.

The nursing students were recognized before family members, friends and college administrators for successfully completing the rigorous program that prepares them to take the National Council Licensure Examination in order to become licensed practical nurses.

Two students were recognized for their achievements in the nursing program. Kalia Bowman received the Practical Nursing Academic Excellence Award for having the highest grade point average and showing determination, dedication and perseverance. Jodie Braswell received the Jean L. Harris Award for Outstanding Clinical Performance for exemplifying “the

total nurse” and having superior clinical skills.

Jodie Braswell spoke to the audience about the journey she and classmates made towards earning their practical nursing certification, and Tracy Jacobs, MSN-Ed., RN was the guest speaker for the event.

During the pinning ceremony, each student wears the traditional white nursing uniform and is formally presented with a specially designed NETC nursing pin and a symbolic lamp.

Kalia Bowman explained the meaning of each symbol, and told the story of Florence Nightingale, the pioneer of modern nursing, before she and her classmates recited the Nightingale Pledge and performed a ceremonial lighting of their lamps.

NETC President Dr. Kyle Wagner, provided the welcoming remarks and thanked friends and family members who provided encouragement and support for those going through the practical nursing program. Dr. Wagner also formally presented the practical nursing class of 2024 to the audience at the closing of the ceremony.

NETC Staff and Faculty Attend Annual SACSCOC Conference in Austin, Texas

NETC employees representing departments across the college attended the annual SACSCOC Conference held December 8-10 in Austin, TX.

The theme for this year’s conference covered various aspects for accreditation in higher education and explored the balance between innovation and compliance with SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation. Attendees were able to attend sessions focused on topics such as compliance, quality enhancement, assessment, student success, AI, and preparation for reaffirmation and onsite reviews.

NETC is currently in the process of preparing for the college's 10-year Reaffirmation. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) is an institutional accreditor for quality assurance in higher education.

2024 Industry Pinning Ceremony

Northeastern Technical College (NETC) held its annual Winter Industry Credential Ceremony on December 11 in Bennettsville. The event celebrated students who worked hard this fall to earn important job certifications. Families, friends, and teachers came together to cheer on the graduates and their achievements.

During the ceremony, students received credentials in many areas, including healthcare and skilled trades. In Allied Health, students earned certifications like Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant (MA), and Phlebotomy. These skills prepare them to work in hospitals, clinics, and labs to help patients and support doctors. Other students earned certifications in Welding, OSHA safety training, and National Coalition of Certification (NC3) programs, showing their readiness for careers in manufacturing and construction.

In total, NETC awarded 148 industry certifications to students during the fall semester. Each certificate represents the time and effort these students put into learning new skills and preparing for their future careers. These credentials will help graduates find good jobs and make a difference in their communities.

The ceremony was a proud moment for everyone involved. Graduates walked across the stage to receive their certificates as family and friends applauded.

SECURITY REMINDERS

ID Badges: All employees and students are required to wear their college ID badges at all times while on campus. Parking Decals: Every employee and student must have a valid parking decal displayed on their vehicle. This is essential for campus security and parking management. If you do not have a Parking Decal you should obtain one from the Enrollment Center this week M-Th from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. You will need your license plate number to get your parking decal.

3. Visitor Check-In: All visitors to campus must check in at the main office located in the 100 building. At community campuses, visitors should see the campus coordinator. Visitors will be required to show a photo ID, and sign in, to obtain a visitor’s pass. Please remind any guests or visitors of this procedure to ensure a smooth check-in process.

Employee Parking: All employees are required to park in the designated parking lot near the 100 building. The only exception to this rule is for employees with an accommodation on file.

Student Parking: All students must park in the designated 200 building parking lot. This helps manage traffic flow and ensures that parking is available for both students and staff in the appropriate areas. The only exception to this rule is for students with an accommodation on file.

If an employee or student does not have their College ID, a visitor's pass will be issued for the day. However, only two visitor passes will be issued per semester, after reaching the limit, there will be a $5 charge for each visitor's pass.

Your cooperation with these policies is crucial to keeping our campus secure and orderly. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don’t hesitate to reach out to campus security or HR.
