April 4, 2025 | Stay Connected, Stay Informed | | PN Nursing Graduates Ace NCLEX Exam | | |
For the second year in a row, Northeastern Technical College’s Practical Nursing (PN) graduates have achieved a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX licensure exam! The scores have been released, and the Practical Nursing class of 2024 earned a perfect pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) as first-time test takers.
The NCLEX is a nationwide examination for the licensing of nurses in the United States. After graduation from the NETC nursing program, graduates take the exam to receive their nursing license. A nursing license gives an individual permission to practice nursing, granted by the state where they met the requirements.
NETC is proud to have back-to-back graduate classes who have achieved perfect scores, proving how successful the college's PN program is in nursing education. This success comes after the nursing department completed an overhaul of the program admissions process and curriculum in 2020, implementing several new learning tools and advanced simulation technologies to aid in the success of students.
| | A Cut Above: NETC’s Stained Glass Class Sparks Creativity | | |
Northeastern Technical College’s Continuing Education department recently hosted a hands-on stained glass class, giving students the chance to explore this beautiful art form. Led by local stained glass artist Colleen Hendricks, the introductory class taught participants the basics of cutting, shaping, and assembling glass pieces to create a unique design.
Under Colleen’s guidance, students were able to chose between one of two suncatcher designs and bring it to life one glass shard at a time. Participants each walked away with a unique piece of handmade art (and maybe a newfound passion for stained glass).
Keep an eye out for upcoming personal enrichment classes at NETC—you never know what new skill you might pick up next.
| | | Justice Graduates from NCMPR National Leadership Institute | | |
NETC Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator, Shannon Justice graduated from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) Leadership Institute at their National Conference in New Orleans last week. The 10-month program was designed to develop leadership skills for MarCom professionals at two-year colleges across the United States.
Justice has been a member of the NCMPR organization for 12 years, serving on the District 2 Executive Council for ten years as the recruitment coordinator, and most recently taking on the role of Medallions Award Coordinator for the Southeast region of the United States in 2024.
“Over the years, NCMPR has really helped me grow in my role at NETC by keeping me up to speed on emerging technologies and trends in higher education marketing,” said Shannon. “The leadership institute helped me to develop a better understanding of my strengths as a leader."
| | As part of the leadership program's graduation Shannon presented on “Leading from the middle: Leveraging influence to lead from anywhere,” which talked about how leadership isn’t always about titles or authority. | | NETC Instructors Attend SCHA Summit | | |
This week, NETC Nursing Department Chair Hope Pigg and Instructor Tracey Patrick attended the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) Summit in Greenville, SC. The summit provided the duo with updates on nursing in South Carolina, and also addressed some challenges and opportunities in the healthcare industry.
During the summit, Pigg and Patrick had were able to hear from the former Surgeon General of the United States, Dr. Jerome Adams, who delivered the keynote titled "Healthcare in Crisis: Making Strategic Inroads in the Nursing Shortage." His presentation highlighted key strategies for addressing nursing shortages and strengthening the future of nursing. The information gained during the summit will benefit students as NETC prepares highly skilled nurses to meet the local workforce demands.
| | | NETC Faculty Explore New Interactive Learning Technologies for Students | | |
NETC administration and faculty are always looking for cutting-edge technology that improves the student learning experience and ensures success. Recently, a few of NETC’s instructors got a firsthand look at zSpace, a powerful platform that blends augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) to create an interactive 3D learning experience.
With this kind of technology, students will be able to reach out and “touch” virtual objects, making learning more hands-on and engaging than before.
By bringing AR and VR into the classroom, NETC is taking education to the next level. Instead of just reading about concepts in a textbook, students can see, move, and interact in real-time. Faculty members are excited about new technologies to help students gain more confidence, master new skills, and prepare for real-world careers in a new way.
"Faculty members were excited participate in the zspace demo and learn about this product that we are considering for purchase," said NETC's Vice President of Academic Affairs, Derk Riechers. "It was a wonderful opportunity for our faculty and staff to learn about new technologies that enhance our learning community."
