LPN Students Practice Medication Administration Skills in the NETC Nursing Simulation Lab

NETC Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) students recently put their classroom knowledge into action during hands-on lab sessions focused on medication administration.

During this skills lab, students practiced administering medications in many different forms as part of their preparation for clinical rotations next week. These practical exercises are an essential part of their training, allowing students to gain confidence and proficiency in safely administering medications before entering real-world healthcare settings.

Under the guidance of experienced instructors, students practiced key skills such as proper dosage calculation, safe handling of medications, accurate documentation, and patient communication. The lab environment provides a controlled space where students can learn from mistakes, refine their techniques, and build the foundational skills necessary for success in patient care.

This "mini photo gallery" capture our LPN students in action as they work through these important skills. Their dedication, focus, and commitment to patient safety were evident throughout the session.

NETC Leaders Explore Electrical Engineering Transfer Pathway at UNC Charlotte Articulation Fair

Marty Gooden, director of workforce; Karen English, director of institutional effectiveness and innovation; and Dr. Michael Jiles, dean of workforce, recently represented Northeastern Technical Community College (NETC) at the UNC Charlotte Articulation Fair. The event brought together leaders from community colleges and universities to collaborate on strengthening academic pathways and expanding opportunities for student transfer and success.

During the fair, NETC representatives engaged in productive discussions with faculty and administrators from University of North Carolina at Charlotte to explore the development of a 2+2 articulation agreement focused on an Electrical Engineering pathway. This type of agreement would allow students to complete their first two years at NETC before seamlessly transferring to UNC Charlotte to finish a four-year degree.

The proposed partnership reflects NETC’s continued commitment to creating accessible, affordable, and high-quality educational opportunities that align with workforce needs. By establishing a clear pathway into a competitive field like Electrical Engineering, students would benefit from a structured and supportive transition while reducing the overall cost of earning a bachelor’s degree.

In addition to strengthening institutional partnerships, the event provided valuable insight into curriculum alignment, transfer requirements, and innovative approaches to student success. NETC leadership is optimistic about the next steps in formalizing the agreement and looks forward to expanding opportunities that empower students to pursue in-demand careers in engineering and related fields.

NETC Showcases Training Programs at Long Middle School's Career Day

Northeastern Technical Community College (NETC) recently connected with students at Long Middle School during their Career Day, offering a hands-on look at exciting career pathways and training opportunities available right here in the community.

Representatives from NETC were on site to highlight two of the college’s in-demand programs: Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) training and Nursing. Both programs gave students a glimpse into careers that are not only essential but also offer strong job stability and growth potential.

The CDL program introduced students to the world of professional driving, emphasizing the important role drivers play in keeping goods moving across the country. Students learned about the training process, licensing requirements, and the wide range of opportunities available in the transportation industry.

Meanwhile, the Nursing program provided insight into the healthcare field, one of the fastest-growing career sectors. NETC representatives shared how students can begin their journey in nursing, the skills they will develop, and the impact they can make in caring for others. The hands-on and people-focused nature of nursing sparked interest among many students eager to explore careers that make a difference.

Career Day events like this are an important way for students to explore their interests early and begin thinking about their future paths. By bringing real-world training programs directly into the school, NETC helps students see what is possible and how they can turn their goals into reality.

NETC is proud to support local schools and inspire the next generation of skilled professionals through education, training, and community engagement.

NETC's Athletes of the Month

Latta - Kate Gasque is a senior student athlete at Latta High School, where she has been a member of the cheerleading squad since the eighth grade. She started on the junior varsity squad and moved up to varsity where she’s been a “back spotter” for stunts and lifts, as well as an enthusiastic leader on the sidelines.

Gasque is enjoying her senior year and continuing to take NETC online classes to help prepare for college.

Gasque said she enjoys cheering at football and basketball events while she calls baseball her favorite sport to watch. She enjoys her time on the sidelines of football and basketball games, two sports that have back-to-back long seasons. After high school, Gasque plans to attend Clemson University and focus on her studies. While she has enjoyed being a cheerleader, once this basketball season ends, she will miss the camaraderie of the team and friendships she has developed over the years.

In the classroom, she carries a 5.240 GPA, and she says that after high school she plans to major in Agri-Business while at Clemson.

For all her athletic and academic accomplishments, Gasque has been chosen the “NETC” Female Student Athlete of the Month.”

This honor is bestowed through a partnership between the Northeastern Technical College and “The High School Sports Report” with the publication communicating with athletic directors at high schools in the counties of Dillon, Marlboro, and Chesterfield, where NETC serves the needs of high school students seeking to earn dual credits in various subjects that can be transferred to colleges after a student’s high school graduation.

The NETC is currently offering over 44 online dual credit courses for the 2025-26 school year to students in the three counties they serve.

Currently, Gasque is enrolled in dual credit online courses offered by NETC. She just started taking classes this school year, and is completing classes that will fill basic requirements for freshman year of college. She has taken Math 110 and this semester will take Psychology. Gasque looks forward to going to college and a business career afterwards.

When asked what NETC does to help her prepare for school after graduation, Gasque said, “Taking online classes gives me familiarity with college classwork,” she said. “It gives me the experience of completing college level work before I arrive on campus and keeps me from being completely thrown into it.”

Gasque rates her overall experience as positive, saying the dual enrollment classes are; “Different than anything I’ve had to do before, but not in a bad way,” she said. “You must look for the positives sometimes as you are working through the assignments. I see a real benefit to getting an advanced taste of college classes, which helps me as a student, and one or two completed classes could reduce my course load.”

As a high school student, being a hard-working cheerleader while also playing spring sports, plus being enrolled in the NETC online classes, how does Gasque manage her time? “I have to plan, so there is a balance in everything between school, sports, and life,” she said. “I put together a schedule that enables me to get all the course work completed so I don’t have to give up on doing other things.”

Gasque reflected on a favorite memory cheering. “The end of each season is an emotional time,” she said. “We worked hard together at practice and games. It’s a point where we reflect on how much joy there has been, as we became a team working together as friends, helping each other every step of the way.”

Latta — Heath Mew is a senior and former two-sport athlete at Latta High School, where he played baseball and basketball before switching to only playing Golf for his senior year. Of the three sports he has participated in, he readily admits that Golf is his favorite sport, despite having just started playing the game a year ago.

While Mew will close out his high school career playing golf, he does have fond memories of playing basketball from the seventh grade through his junior year. Similarly, he played baseball starting in the eighth grade through his sophomore year. Everything changed when he says, “My buddies invited me to go play golf and I found I really enjoyed the game,” he said. That outing led him to eventually play golf for on his high school team.

In the classroom Mew carries a 4.512 GPA, while maintaining his online course load, and participating in sports.

For all his athletic and academic accomplishments, Mew has been chosen the “NETC” Male Student Athlete of the Month.”

Mew is currently enrolled in dual credit courses offered by NETC. He just finished College Algebra and this semester he will take Psychology. His plans are to attend North Greenville University and work towards a degree in Physical Therapy. Afterwards, he aspires to enroll in MUSC’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program and make that his career.

By taking the online courses through the NETC, Mew says, “It will help me prepare for the work-load and schedule I can expect with my future college work, and this helps me balance my schedule for my classes,” he said. ” By taking these classes my NETC classes will transfer, and they will count for freshman required classes which will put me ahead in my academic load.”

When asked about a memorable moment in his sports career, Mew said, “Last year, I was new on the golf team, and we made it to state,” he said. “I got to play, and that first time hearing my name called to tee off, with me being new to the sport, was special. Even better, I addressed the ball for the tee shot and it was the best drive I ever hit at that point.”

Dillon — Morgan Leonard is a senior student athlete at Dillon High School, where she has participated in several team sports since the seventh grade. She’s played softball, soccer, Volleyball, and focused on Cheerleading for her junior and senior years.

She is enjoying her senior year and continuing to take NETC online classes to help prepare for college.

Leonard said she enjoyed playing softball and volleyball and that she experienced joy during her time on the sidelines of football, basketball and cheering. After high school, Leonard plans to attend college to study Biology with plans to attend pharmacy school after graduation.

In the classroom, she carries a 4.0 GPA, and she says that after high school she has not finalized which school she will attend but the College of CharlestonUSC, and Claflin are her top choices.

For all her athletic and academic accomplishments, Morgan Leonard has been chosen the “NETC” Female Student Athlete of the Month.”

Currently, Leonard is enrolled in dual credit online courses offered by NETC. She just started taking online classes as a junior, and is completing classes that will fill basic requirements for freshman year of college. She has taken American History, English 101, Algebra and will continue taking classes this spring.

When asked what NETC does to help her prepare for college after her graduation, Leonard said taking these classes, “The online experience has helped me develop my time management skills, got me use to college classes online, and it will help me save money on college because I will have already fulfilled many of prerequisite classes I already completed.

“It’s been a great experience and the professors were easy to talk to about assignments and deadlines,” said Leonard. “They wanted to help me succeed.”

Leonard rates the overall experience with the NETC online courses as positive, and she says she is grateful that she got to take these classes that will reduce the number of classes needed once she begins college.

Leonard reflected on a favorite memory as a cheerleader, “During basketball season, the excitement of the crowd in a close game was intense, but when a player made a half-court shot, it seemed like everyone on the gym was cheering, and in that moment the energy in the gym was unmatched.”

Dillon — John Bohachic is a junior baseball player at Dillon High School, where he has played baseball since his parents started him playing in tee-ball at age 4. Some people say he’s grown up with baseball, and not surprisingly, it’s his favorite sport. On the diamond, he’s the team’s catcher, plus relief pitcher.

Bohachic looks forward to the start of baseball season. He says that he enjoys playing baseball about three months of the year with his high school team, and devotes time to organized team play. Being in the South, he says the good weather is ideal for playing baseball. Even though he devotes time to baseball it does not stop him from prioritizing his academics and that allows him the chance to play the sport he loves.

Bohachic has been enrolled in dual credit courses with NETC since the ninth grade. He focuses on college prep classes like English 101, College Algebra, and Biology classes so that he completes many of the freshman required classes early. He tries to get most of his homework done at school, or the same day it is assigned, in order to free up time for his NETC classes including assignments.

In the classroom he carries a 5.2 GPA, while maintaining his NETC online course load, and participating in sports.

For all his athletic and academic accomplishments, John Bohachic has been chosen the “NETC” Male Student Athlete of the Month.”

The NETC is currently offering over 44 online dual credit courses for the 2025-26 school year to students in the three counties they serve.

Bohachic is currently enrolled in dual credit courses offered by NETC and he just finished College Algebra and he is looking forward to taking additional classes this semester. His plans after high school include studying for a Broadcast Journalism degree, and he hopes to continue playing baseball in college. When asked if he had a dream school to play for at the D-1 level, he said, “That would be Penn State but I’m willing to go anywhere to continue playing at the next level. Francis Marion University has an outstanding program and it’s local.”

Referring to the experience taking NETC online courses, Bohachic commented, “They give you a deadline you must meet, it’s college level work, and the NETC program is exactly what I can expect when I get to college,” he said. “I like the way the program is run, and it’s been an amazing experience.” “I know with will help me reduce my course load greatly and it will be very helpful getting many of the first-year prerequisite classes completed.”

When asked about a memorable moment in his sports career, Bohachic said, “In region play last year against Marlboro County, we were no hits for six innings. Then, they made a pitching change and we scored 8 runs. The next inning, it started raining and I got tapped as relief to get us out of the inning. With out bats working, the game was tied at 11 in the final inning. We managed to get a walk off run for the win and it was an incredible come back in the rain.”
