THE SECRET TO OUR SUCCESS!

If you are reading this (spoiler alert: you are!), today’s newsletter has blasted out to about 11,000 subscribers. That means Sharon duplicated last week’s newsletter, revised the banner numbers of how many people we’ve reached out to, updated the Volunteer Ops sections in the newsletter (and on the website), and 100 myriad other things I can’t even keep track of. Wayne collected the volunteer shoutout info for this week and started working on next week’s. Magically, overnight, Tom and Gregg wrote the newsletter’s articles. Jeff uploaded a video of our recent Blue Cheese event, and Cat created the graphic for it. Marie proofed the whole newsletter. Then Ranga helped ferry it from one software to another where he did some HTML clean-up before sending the newsletter out to you. All these people share one (and probably only one) trait: they are volunteers. Volunteers host our fundraising events, where volunteer musicians entertain the volunteers who attend. Volunteer trainers run our voter drives, textbanks, phonebanks, social media storms, and postcarding programs for the 11,000+ volunteers who show up to do the joyful, challenging work of saving the world. Volunteers are responsible for everything we’ve achieved – including having helped register over 3 million swing state Democrats! You’ll never guess what Jason and I were talking about just yesterday: our need for more volunteers. For everything from outreach to training to calling fellow volunteers!  Ben Wikler, the star of our Blue Cheese Wisconsin launch party (and Chair of the Wisconsin Democratic Party) cogently said that the best ways to help are always, “time, talent, and treasure.” We'll do great things with the volunteers we already have, but we need you! Yes, you! We need your time and your talents, even if we don’t know what they are yet! And yes, the need for treasure is great as well. But that’s for a different column. Come volunteer! POSTCARDING POWER BOOST: TWICE AS MANY WORLD-FAMOUS ARTISTS! James McMullan has created indelible posters for Lincoln Center Theater, including Anything Goes, Carousel and My Fair Lady. He's illustrated record covers, U.S. stamps, and children's books you've probably read to your kids, like the classic I Stink! Oh, and his paintings of a Brooklyn disco for New York Magazine were the visual inspiration for the movie Saturday Night Fever. James' latest incredible artwork can now be found...wait for it...on our postcards urging people to register as Democrats! James reached out to us after seeing our postcarding program. He wanted to help, so he painted four incredible "register to vote" postcards starring Democracy Donkey, and is noodling on more. So you can now buy postcards from two world-famous artists, James and Shepard Fairey, here. Check out James' website and follow him on Insta @jamesmcmullanart. A massive Field Team 6 thanks to James for channeling his political passion and artistic genius into helping us save democracy, one inspirational postcard at a time.

McAULIFFE DELIVERS In Virginia, the crucial governor's race has narrowed to a precarious margin, so we created some social media posts to ensure Terry McAuliffe beats the living MAGA out of the Trump stooge running against him. Share bit.ly/McAuliffe21 (where all of the #McAuliffeDelivers assets live) with everyone you know in Virginia, and with Virginia organizations who are on the ground. Ask Governor Newsom if this sort of thing helps! We think he'd agree that the 10s of millions of impressions with positive messaging helped defeat the recall!

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 30: BYOP TEXTING BOOTCAMP - WI Get ready to BYOP – Bring Your Own Phone (*plan)! We're bootcamping TODAY, Thursday, September 30 at 4p PT. Our game-changing goal is to ramp up textbanking without having to raise money for expensive texting software. We’ll train you how to text from your computer, using your data plan. Once trained, you can do this on your own time, whenever you like, as much as you like! This week we're still focused on Wisconsin in honor of our recent Blue Cheese event with Ben Wikler and the yeoman's work he's doing there in the fight against the GOP's nakedly anti-democracy shenanigans. Let's lend Ben a hand by registering new Wisconsin Democrats, working together to get Democrats elected up and down the Badger State ballot! ...especially a new senator to replace Republican—and obvious Russian asset—Ron Johnson! SATURDAY, OCTOBER 2: WOMEN'S MARCH Get your marching shoes on and join us as we #MarchForReproductiveRights. We're taking to the streets on Saturday, October 2 in response to Texas' draconian six-week abortion ban, which allows individuals to sue abortion providers and patients. MONDAY, OCTOBER 11: PHONE BANK TO FLORIDA Join Field Team 6 in phone banking into one of the most critical states to our democracy-saving efforts: Florida. This will be an ongoing campaign and we'll be focusing on contacting eligible voters (likely Democrats) in Florida's 26th district! Monday, October 11 from 6-7p ET we’ll be targeting Carlos Gimenez, a heinous Republican congressman who flipped his seat red, and then voted to overturn the Biden election results. In November, Carlos won his district (FL-26) by 3.4 points, or 11,816 votes. We have 35,005 eligible voters to call in his district. Let’s ride!!! And remember, every Democrat we register and inspire to come out to the polls is a vote against Marco Rubio, a vote against Ron "COVID King" DeSantis, and a future 2024 vote against Rick "Skeletor" Scott. Seriously, could there be a worse collection of villains than Florida's GOP leaders? Let's kick them all to the curb! RSVP HERE.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 14: OP-EDS FOR ORDINARY PEOPLE Join published op-ed writer and voting rights advocate Valerie Morishige on Thursday, October 14 at 6p PT for a how-to on writing an op-ed as an "ordinary person." The goals for the workshop are to increase your motivation, unlock your abilities, and get published! We will discuss why an op-ed is a powerful tool for change, how to choose a target, positioning yourself as an "expert," crafting your argument, and the nitty gritty of submitting your final product. You can RSVP right HERE. Since this is a hands-on workshop, please come prepared with an issue you would like to write about. The goal is to be co-creators and co-conspirators in this space; therefore, sign-ups will be capped at 20 people and the session will not be recorded. Thank you! TUESDAY, OCTOBER 26: FLIP VICTORVILLE BLUE! (CA-08) Want to fight Trumpism and the GOP circus of horrors, and make a real difference? Registering Democrats is the #1 most effective way to do that... and now, once again, you can do that IN PERSON! Join Field Team 6 and the San Bernardino County Democratic Party on Tuesday, October 26 from 10a-12p PT for an exciting, in-person, voter registration drive in CA-08. This district has leaned red, but its voters are finally realizing the GOP's policies don't benefit them in any way, shape or form. Let's make that crystal clear as we sign them up to vote as honest-to-God, democracy-loving Democrats! RSVP to join us RIGHT HERE. No experience necessary. VOLUNTEER SHOUT-OUT: MARDI ROLLOW

This week we’re shouting out the phenomenal Field Team 6 volunteer Mardi Rollow, whose latest incarnation as an activist is the culmination of the many fascinating lives she’s led so far. Here’s just one of her adventures, in her own words: I spent two years in the Peace Corps in Tunisia teaching English to high school students in a small town. At that time, I did a lot of travelling to other parts of North Africa, then to East Africa (Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania). Then Mardi went from world-traveling teacher to bringing some of the world back to America… I joined the AMAN Folk Ensemble as a dancer, a local dance company which performed music and dances from many different countries; ultimately became a soloist and Associate Artistic Director. Later, I became a flamenco dancer and performed in theatres, restaurants and private events. Mardi’s being modest. The AMAN Folk Ensemble is one of the biggest, most influential folk dance ensembles in the country! In lives that followed, Mardi became a technical writer, a web designer and developer, and a gardener.  Here’s how her political activist life began: I was not active in politics at all until things got so ugly in this country that I felt that I had to do something to help save our democracy. So I joined a local Indivisible group and found out about Field Team 6 there. The more I learned about FT6, the more I felt that this was the group that I wanted to work with. Currently she is instrumental in uploading the various pieces of the pre-made "assets" we use in our social media storms on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram – which have generated over 100 million impressions in the last month alone – and she helps manage our ActBlue pages! Mardi – for bringing fiery flamenco passion and style to everything you do, Field Team 6 cries: ¡OLÉ!

BLUE CHEESE, GOOD TIMES...AND INSPIRATION! Tuesday was National Voter Registration Day and we celebrated in style with one of the patron saints of the Resistance – Chair of the Wisconsin Democratic Party Ben Wikler – who flipped Wisconsin back to blue in 2020, restoring the Blue Wall and vanquishing the Fast Food Fascist to his skull-shaped castle in Mar-a-Lago. Ben was amazing, sharing the harrowing and inspiring tale of his experience of the 2020 election, and revealing strategies for keeping Wisconsin blue—something we must not take for granted. The work continues! And that's why we've launched our new campaign to register hordes of new Badger State Democrats. (Read more about those efforts in our BYOP and Social Storm write-ups above!) Milwaukee-area (nine-term!) Congresswoman Gwen Moore gave us a rousing call to arms. We heard exactly how important our efforts are from rising star Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes, who is running to flip Ron Johnson's Senate seat blue. Our partners in Wisconsin Four Directions and Voces de la Frontera briefed everyone on our joint plans. And we got to celebrate it all with Milwaukee's own indie-folk heroes Dead Horses. We raised our spirits... and also raised money: $3300 and counting! Thank you all for this explosive campaign launch party! All proceeds go to our Democratic registration efforts in Wisconsin, and will go a long way toward ousting Trump lackey Senator Ron Johnson (R), re-electing Governor Tony Evers (D), and electing a Democrat to the seat being vacated by Rep. Ron Kind (WI-03)!

Last Saturday, more than 60 activists got together virtually for an insightful, interactive, helpful workshop on Activist Fatigue and how to overcome it.  Led by our brilliant multi-hyphenate Czar (Postcarding, Mobilize, Zoom, Newsletter) Sharon Lord Greenspan, and co-created with super volunteer Cathy O’Krent, who has years of experience in this and related fields, this workshop was a breath of fresh air.
