Dear SSWSC Families -
In a recent meeting debriefing on the Holiday Classic event we hosted in December, I kept inserting Winter Carnival for Holiday Classic, which shows what is now on the consciousness of us all here at SSWSC. It's that time of year when anticipation for this spectacular event is at the forefront. We can't wait to celebrate with you all February 7-11! I am already wearing my button. Buttons will be available in the coming days and weeks leading up to the events.
In the meantime, we are hosting and offering incredible opportunities for athletes at every level with an alpine U10/U12 Skills Festival event this weekend at Howelsen, along with an International Freeskier and Snowboarders Association (IFSA) Big Mountain competition at Steamboat Ski Resort. The following weekend, we will host the Colorado Sync Cup for U16 alpine athletes, a freestyle moguls competition, and then at the beginning of February, before Winter Carnival, we will host the University of Colorado Invitational collegiate event. No rest for the weary!
I hope everyone has had an opportunity to enjoy our recent snowfall, as well as getting your fair share of shoveling, plowing, and perhaps a bit of grumbling. Just for the record, I personally have a strict policy of never complaining about snow! It is a blessing no matter what the circumstances.
See you out at the events,
Brian Krill

Athlete of the Week - Presented by Alpine Bank
PEYTON BENDER
ALPINE
Peyton Bender from the U14 Alpine team is our Athlete of the Week. Head Coach Joe Paul nominated Peyton, "I first coached Peyton this summer at Mammoth, and her energy and coachability were contagious among the group. The Mammoth camp was my first week coaching with SSWSC, and she helped make it approachable and enjoyable for me, which I really appreciated. Though she may not realize it, Peyton is a fun leader among the U14s with her energy, work ethic, and focus on the SSWSC Core Value of FUN!! When she's not ski racing, she plays soccer and enjoys having fun with her family!" Way to go, Peyton!
