For Heron Estates Senior Residents
News, Events and Useful Information--Thanks to the City of Riviera Beach

Well, Thanks to MAMA
That's as in Mothers Against Murderers Association (MAMA), a Riviera Beach-based nonprofit that works on behalf of families hurt by murders. The organization, along with the Youth Recreation Association, another City-based, activist nonprofit, is providing free plates of food to all Heron Estates Senior residents who've signed up through Delores Jones, a Heron Estates Senior resident who is involved with her community. "Every Thanksgiving, they take food, they deliver it and fill my car up and I do the same," Ms. Jones said about MAMA. "We didn't do last year because of COVID." This year, Ms. Jones said she's signed up with MAMA to receive more than 140 plates of the cooked foods being provided. "I also bought two cases of water," she added, "so I can share that too."

Christmas is Coming!
The annual event, Winter Wonderland, is held each year at the Riviera Beach Marina Village--and is all about fun! Throughout the month of December, there will be lots happening: free photographs with Santa Claus, free live holiday-focused entertainment and, interestingly in Florida, there will also be activities on ice and snow. And did we say most of it is completely free? Yes. The event is open to entire families with events and activities for all. The fun happens at different times on December 3 and 4 and December 11 and 18. The Marina is located at 190 E. 13th Street and, for more information, call 561-844-3408. The event is provided primarily by the City of Riviera Beach and the Riviera Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (RBCRA).

And For Safety-Related Issues
|
The City has begun delivering emergency and general information alerts through its new CodeRed notification system. Residents, business owners, visitors and you can register to receive critical alerts in real time by text, phone call, email and social media. The intent? To reach residents, in particular, wherever they are. The City will send alerts regarding public heath and safety matters, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, significant weather events, missing persons and other community alerts (road closures, water notices) by using this system. To receive alerts, register online by clicking here. Or text the word RBALERTS to 99411 or register by phone by calling 866-939-0911. Questions? Call the Office of the City Manager at 561-812-6590.

The RBHA was founded in 1968 and is a special district of the City of Riviera Beach. It is also an agency of the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), as are six other housing authorities in Palm Beach County. The five-member Board of Commissioners meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the Authority offices. The meetings are open to the public and nearly all information is available to the public by request. Click here for more Board information, including meeting dates, agendas and minutes.

The Authority Also Has A New Mission Statement
The Board decided at a recent development workshop to retool the Authority's Motto, its Vision Statement and its Mission Statement, which now reads: Our mission is to proactively develop and create sustainable housing and opportunities for residents of the City of Riviera Beach, so that residents are strengthened by having a safe and affordable living environment. Additionally, to create viable partnerships so that the Authority can meet its overall goals and objectives.
