JEFF COSGROVE & JEFF LEDERER

New York based saxophonist Jeff Lederer and Maryland based drummer Jeff Cosgrove come together for the first time to explore sonic territories and get comfortable in the musical unknown.  This unique duo will be basing their spontaneous compositions on several landmark albums, including Ornette Coleman's the Shape of Jazz to Come, Old & New Dreams, Howlin' Wolf's Moanin' at the Moonlight, BB King's One Kind Favor, Fela Kuti and the Africa 70 Live, William Parker's Scrapbook, Jeff Ballard's Time's Tales, David Verellis Continuum, Ed Blackwell & Wadada Leo Smith's Blue Mountain Sun Drummer, and Matt Wilson's Humidity.

These musicians bring a child like excitement to the sounds they shepherd and music they create.  Their varied backgrounds and musical experiences help to enhance what they will give to the audience.

ABOUT THE EARTH TONGUES

A New York-based ensemble dedicated to exploring the scope and scale of experimental improvised music, Earth Tongues approaches each performance as a chance to build new, engaging work that questions our relationship to music and our understanding of sound. Consisting of Carlo Costa on percussion, Joe Moffett on trumpet, and Dan Peck on tuba, the trio creates immersive pieces that explore dynamic and temporal extremes.

Ohio, Earth Tongues' second release on Neither/Nor Records, is their most ambitious work to date. A long-form piece that stretches the very fabric of improvised music to the limit, Ohio envelopes the listener with intensely quiet textures, glacial build-ups and surprising, thunderous moments of noise. It is a double-album inspired by the sonic extremes found in the natural and industrial worlds.

JENEE MATEER   |   the earth is intimate

April 1 - 29, 2017

Currently on view Baltimore-based photographer Jenee Mateer's fifth solo exhibition, The Earth Is Intimate

Sumptuous, subtle, dynamic, and enchanting, Jenee Mateer's latest exhibition explores nature and our relationship to it with several different bodies of work created over the last 3 years. Nature is our environment, but in these photographs it becomes a character, a place to rest, a texture that swallows us up, and a reminder of our own bodies and mortality. Through multiple approaches and new techniques, hinting at the various roles the earth plays in our existence, this work both identifies current mythologies, and builds new narratives around our connection to nature.

We can anthropomorphize nature, we can worship it's beauty, we can find it within us, we can imagine it into a fantasy world, or we can do all of these things and see how deep the rabbit hole goes.  The work is on view through April 29, 2017. Gallery hours are Wed. - Thurs. 2-6pm, Fri. -Sat. 12-5pm, and Sunday by appt.
