It was the perfect Republican plan. Hold an election in the dead of summer. Make the ballot proposal confusing. Support for abortion rights was polling around 57% – so just raise the bar to 60% for the popular referendum in November, and defeat abortion rights now… by cheating.

They thought no one would show up.

Everyone showed up.

They thought they would confuse us.

But activists made the issues clear.

They thought they could subvert the will of the people – and continue to subjugate women.

They have no idea who they’re messing with.

This was a victory first for the organizers, activists, and voters in Ohio, especially the women, who led the way. It was also a victory for the national activism infrastructure that Field Team 6 is proud to be a small part of – an alliance of thousands of likeminded organizations across the country that arose after 2016 and have now been organizing for 7 years.

That’s almost 2 army stints. 

And it shows! When our battle-tested activist army focuses on a key election, even in a so-called “off year,” here’s what happens:

• Janet Protasiewicz wins in Wisconsin by 11 points, flipping the court liberal.
• Brandon Johnson stages a major comeback to defeat a Trump-sponsored decoy and become Mayor of Chicago.
• Donna Deegan becomes the first Democrat in 20 years and the first female Mayor ever of Jacksonville, Florida’s largest city.
• A Republican attempt to cheat goes down by 14 points in bright red Ohio.
• And in November, we win even more elections!

This joyful work begins now! (Or as soon as you’re done celebrating!) Because we take nothing for granted. And that is why we are already registering more Democrats in Ohio to guarantee abortion rights, more Democrats in Kentucky to re-elect Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear, and more Democrats in crucial swing state Virginia to take back the House of Delegates and defend the State Senate.

We can't wait to hit college campuses, and not just because we yearn for ultimate frisbee on the quad. Gen Z is now officially the biggest generation, and a majority of them are now voting age. Plus, they care deeply about Democratic issues like abortion rights, gun safety, health care, climate rescue, and stopping Trump.

The best way to get 'em registered is by hitting their campuses. These back-to-school events are the Burning Man of voter drives––it's wild and crazy fun channeling Gen Z's college spirit. And best of all, we can rack up BIG numbers of new Democrats. Wanna join the fun?
