Conversation with Khaled Barakeh
Art and Activism from the Syrian Diaspora

Join Hillyer, The Middle East Institute, and Media and Arts for Peace for a presentation by and conversation with Khaled Barakeh, Berlin-based Syrian artist and cultural activist. As the founder, chairman and manager of the platform coculture, Barakeh is an advocate of preserving and promoting Syrian cultural heritage who provides an alternative perspective on the Syria of today. Barakeh will share his practice and journey of creating and managing coculture, and highlight the importance of sustaining culture that is at risk of being lost to conflict and displacement.

This event will feature an introduction by Lyne Sneige, Director of the Arts and Culture Center at The Middle East Institute, followed by a presentation of Khaled Barakeh’s work and interview moderated by Lindsey Doyle, Co-founder of Media and Arts for Peace. Question and answer will follow.
Co-hosted with The Middle East Institute Arts and Culture Center, this program is supported by a Ford Foundation grant through the Institute of International Education (IIE).
