A new show is gracing The Puppet Co. stage beginning this Thursday through August 20: it's Beauty and the Beast! The show features several exciting puppetry elements that are sure to wow your children. Tickets are now on sale!


This week's Summer Concert is one you won't want to miss. The one and only U.S. Marine Band Fusion Ensemble is bringing music fit for the White House to the Bumper Car Pavilion on Thursday! Learn more and RSVP.


Glass artist and LGBTQ activist Tim Tate will be discussing his career and how he uses his art for good. With an impressive lineup of works in museums' private collections and a notable host - the Executive Director of the James Renwick Alliance - this is a unique opportunity to hear from such powerful players in the arts industry.

Art Clinic Online: Tim Tate

Saturday, June 22 | 10:30am - 11:30am


Glass artist Tim Tate has made a significant impression on museums around the DC area and beyond; his works reside in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Renwick Gallery, the Fuller Museum, the Katzen Art Center, the Mint Museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum, and the Takoma Museum of Glass. This Saturday, join Tim and host Jamianne Jacobin, Executive Director of the James Renwick Alliance, for a discussion of his artwork and LGBTQ activism.

Terry Snyder's Beauty and the Beast features half height marionettes, a projected magic mirror, and two storytellers guiding our audience through a sweet retelling of the original Beauty and the Beast tale. Will they fall in love in time to break the curse? Directd by Dillon Mitcham.

We are pleased to invite artists from the public to submit entries for the 52nd Annual Labor Day Art Show, a Glen Echo Park tradition where students, teachers, and art enthusiasts come together each year to celebrate the Park and its many distinctive arts programs. Entries are due August 4th.

Waltz Dance

Sunday, July 23 | 3:30pm - 6:00pm


Local favorites Karen Collins & the Backroads Band bring some country to the Ballroom this Sunday. In addition to the usual program of 3/4-time waltzes, the band's repertoire will include several selections from their recently released CD, Daddy Can I Use the Car. For anyone unfamiliar with folk waltz (also called country waltz), Waltz Time offers a beginner lesson, included with admission price of $15 ($5 students), at 2:45pm. ALL are welcome. Boots--and conventional dance footwear--are appropriate; big hats are optional!

CAMPS

At Glen Echo Park, WE ARE HAPPY CAMPERS!

 

We offer camps for children & teens in visual arts, music, theater, and nature & aquatic life. We're looking forward to welcoming you back to the Park for a safe and fun summer. 

Most camps run from 9am – 3pm. Ages 5-17. (A few camps start at age 4.) See a sampling of our camps below.

After Camp is also available to extend your camper's day until 6pm!

Studio Arts Camp (Ages 8-12)

July 24 - 28 | 9:00am - 3:00pm


For the dedicated young artist, a more in-depth approach to art. Each day we will concentrate on two projects from drawing, painting, collage, wood, fabric, and mosaic sculpture. Each student will draw daily in a journal and explore the Park.

Small Treasures Art Glass Camp (Ages 10-16)

July 24 - 28 | 9:00am - 12:00pm


Spend five mornings learning how to design glass artwork, create and finish a variety of glass items. Campers will produce a plate, several types of jewelry, and a pocket vase. In addition, they will make a small cast piece, and do a recycled glass project.

Teen Multi-Media Explore Camp (Ages 12-17)

July 24 - 28 | 9:00am - 3:00pm


In the morning we will explore drawing and painting media: journaling, altered book, story boards for graphic novels, and painting on canvas. After a lunch break, we will take our ideas in 3-D form using clay, paper mâché, plaster, and fiber arts.

Beauty and the Beast: Puppetry Camp (Ages 8-12)

July 31 - August 4 | 2:00pm - 4:00pm


Participants will rehearse a puppet version of Beauty and the Beast and have a performance on the final day for their families. Work with professional puppeteers to create fun and unique characters and perform on The Puppet Co. stage.

Around the World Music Camp (Ages 4-7)

July 31 - August 4 | 9:00am - 3:00pm


From singing folk songs and learning rhythms from around the globe, campers will learn to see the world through the eyes of music. They will learn to know and respect other cultures through their music.

In this interactive adaptation of the Brothers Grimm’s classic story, a fisherman hits the jackpot when he stumbles upon a talking fish. Narrated by Scat, the magical fish with a flair for jazz, the fisherman and his wife discover the consequences of greed.

Tiny Tots


Designed for children 2 to 4 years old, ongoing Tiny Tots shows offer a viewing atmosphere especially suited for young theatre patrons. All Tiny Tots shows feature: 30 minute runtime, no dark room, no loud noises, and open theatre doors.
