Greetings!

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Glen Echo Park over the holiday weekend! With thousands of visitors enjoying amazing music and art, we had such a fabulous time! This week, we're starting to move into fall with social dances, classes, history tours, & more!

Tonight, join us for a Tuesday night swing dance presented by the Institute of Musical Traditions, featuring live music by Tuba Skinny! World-class interpreters of traditional jazz, Tuba Skinny has also branched out into jug band music, spirituals, country blues, string band music, ragtime, and New Orleans R&B. Not a dancer? There will be seating options available too.

This week, square dancing returns to the Bumper Car Pavilion with monthly Thursday night Bumper Car Squares! This Thursday, pick from two beginner lessons: Intro to Square Dancing with caller Katie Stahl, or Intro to Flatfoot Dancing taught by a member of Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble. Plus enjoy live music by Bach Bui, Rachel Eddy, Lucas Chohany, and Em Hammond.

On Saturday morning, take a journey through time with a Glen Echo Park Civil Rights and History Tour. Join a National Park Service (NPS) ranger on a free 45-minute walking tour and hear stories from the Park's history, including the 1960 civil rights protests to desegregate Glen Echo Amusement Park. No registration required, just meet at the Dentzel carousel at 10:00am.

After the Glen Echo Park Civil Rights and History Tour, join an NPS ranger for our first Junior Ranger Program Swearing-In Event! If you've completed a Clara Barton, Glen Echo Park or Theodore Roosevelt Island junior ranger booklet, stop by to be sworn in and receive a junior ranger badge. These Junior Ranger ceremonies will take place on the first Saturday of each month at 11:00am, meeting at the Candy Corner Ranger Station.

Check out an online Artist Discussion with Gregory Ferrand, a painter who pulls on influences as wide ranging as comics, Mexican muralists, and 1950s fashion to create works that reveal the beauty of living. Every other Saturday, tune into Stone Tower Studio's Art Clinic Online (ACO) to be a part of dialog between local artists with a variety of perspectives, backgrounds, and art making styles.

Sarau de Samba returns on Sunday! Co-presented with EducArte, the Partnership presents this once a month Brazilian Samba gathering, featuring a dynamic ensemble of skilled musicians and dancers. Join us for a Brazilian Independence Day celebration with a FREE Samba!

Bits ‘N Pieces Puppet Theatre’s The Selfish Giant’s Garden is based on Oscar Wilde’s famous fairy tale about a giant who learns it’s never too late to share. The production features lathe-turned wooden marionettes. The puppet’s simple wooden surface is left so children can use their imagination. The hair is made of rope, the eyes of shiny brads. The string puppet children are round and smooth while the Giant is boxy and rough. The musical show contrasts selfishness and sharing. How does a Selfish Giant learn to share?
