Make a Difference in the
Financial Picture of CUC!

Are You Required to Take an RMD from your IRA?
Calling all those who must make minimum withdrawals from retirement accounts!  Why not have some or all of those RMD's sent directly to CUC?  Whatever the amount is, it will be counted as part of the required minimum but it will not show up on your 1099R as taxable. This is an excellent way to make sure your contribution is still deductible!  Please consider donating a portion of your RMD as a way to support the ministry of Columbine United Church.  Please contact Lindsey Stevenson at the church office for more details.

King Soopers Cards
You can donate to CUC simply by purchasing a King Soopers card at the Welcome Spot. Each time you reload the card at the store when buying your groceries,
CUC receives 5%!

Thrivent Financial Choice
CUC is a participating organization in Thrivent Financial's Thrivent Choice® program. Thrivent Choice is a charitable grant program allowing eligible members to recommend where Thrivent Financial distributes part of its charitable outreach grant funds each year. Eligible Thrivent Financial members can direct Thrivent Choice Dollars® to CUC in a particular month. If you have Choice Dollars available to direct, please consider directing them
to CUC. To learn more about Thrivent Choice, visit Thrivent.com/thriventchoice , or call Thrivent at 800-847-4836, and say "Thrivent Choice" when prompted.

Text Your Offering
In less time than it takes to write a check, you can now make your contribution to CUC with a quick text message!  Text "CUC $50" to 73256 to give $50 (for example) to Columbine United Church using your text messaging. You can adjust the dollar amount to whatever amount you would like to give.  Standard text message rates do apply. Thank you for our continued support of CUC! Your time, talent, and resources are helping us to change the world!

GROUPS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

HELP WANTED:  Host/Hostess for Sunday mornings.  We are looking for a team of 2-3 individuals who can serve as our hosts and hostesses during worship on Sunday mornings.  Duties include setting up communion (except for the 1st of the month); selling King Soopers cards and taking credit card donations at the Welcome Spot; being a friendly face to answer questions; and communicating with church staff to help the services run smoothly.  This paid position will require your attendance from 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. on the Sundays you are scheduled.  Our Host/Hostess schedule will be rotated among the team of 2-3 hosts, so you will not have to commit to every Sunday.  Please contact Lindsey in the church office ( [email protected]  or call 303-798-1845) if you want to know more!

Hurricane Florence Relief:  The Mission Committee has donated $1000 for relief efforts following Hurricane Florence on behalf of our congregation.   Many of you have also asked how you can help.  Checks can be written to Columbine United Church and marked for Hurricane Relief and put into the Sunday offering or mailed to the church.  Alternatively, you can give through our website.  Website donation:  Go to  www.columbineunited.church; select the Give tab in the upper right hand corner of the page; select the Giving Details dropdown titled, Hurricane Relief; enter donation amount.

In due time, the business office will send a check on our behalf (in addition to the donation made by the Mission Committee) to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief).  Thank you for your generosity as we reach out to others in their time of need.

Mission Fair THIS Sun, Oct 7!   Did you know that women at CUC create these dolls for boys/girls experiencing a trying time in their lives ?  Come have a breakfast snack and visit these dolls/other agencies supported by CUC Missions.

The CUC Health Cabinet will be meeting October 7:  We will meet at 9:00 am in the Parlor.  We want to start offering blood pressure checks on the second Sunday of each month.  Anyone with a medical background who would like to join us is welcome.  We will be talking about the schedule and record keeping.   Any other questions, please contact Peggy Sweet at [email protected] or 303-973-8253.

The MEN'S ROOM will meet Tues, Oct 9th:  Join us at 6:30 pm  in the Fireside Chapel. We will start discussion with the parable of the sower, found in Matthew Chapter 5, as well as current events. Looking forward to seeing everyone, and catching up with each other.

"The Animals are coming!  The Animals are coming!"    Again, this year CUC is supporting both Heifer International and Church World Services with their selection of alternative Christmas gifts.  We will be at the Welcome Spot starting in mid-November to help you with your orders of everything from chickens to water buffaloes to llamas that will be sent to third world countries.  Start thinking of someone that you want to honor with a special gift.  Let's  fill an ark full of gifts!   Please contact Greg Schriefer [email protected] with questions.

CUC Book Club, Thurs Oct 15 (new time):    We will meet at 1:30 pm to discuss Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger.  We have delayed the start for ½ hour because the CGs also meet at noon on the 3rd Thursday of the month.  Everyone is welcome.

Food Donations:    Food donations needed!  The IFCS food bank needs pasta, rice, cornmeal, flour, sugar, cookies, and crackers.  They also need paper towels, TP, and facial tissue.

Security  Following the Council's direction we have a security team in place comprised of several members of the congregation. They've been studying the security needs of the building during worship and mid week activities. Thanks to Tag Worley, security cameras have been installed in strategic areas. On Sunday mornings members of the team are in the Narthex and sanctuary monitoring the needs of the attendees, everything from health concerns to people needing assistance. The committee is looking for more members to join in this ministry. It is our desire to create a safe and secure environment for every member of the congregation. Please contact Steve Poos-Benson with your thoughts and ideas.

King Soopers   Remember to buy, load, and use your King Soopers cards!  We count on $1,000 a month in revenue from King Soopers card reloads, which pays for the monthly electric bill at CUC.  It's easy and doesn't cost you anything.   Get your card at the Welcome Spot today and then load it at the store.Thank you for your support of CUC!
