Make a Difference in the
Financial Picture of CUC!

Are You Required to Take an RMD from your IRA?
Calling all those who must make minimum withdrawals from retirement accounts!  Why not have some or all of those RMD's sent directly to CUC?  Whatever the amount is, it will be counted as part of the required minimum but it will not show up on your 1099R as taxable. This is an excellent way to make sure your contribution is still deductible!  Please consider donating a portion of your RMD as a way to support the ministry of Columbine United Church.  Please contact Lindsey Stevenson at the church office for more details.

King Soopers Cards
You can donate to CUC simply by purchasing a King Soopers card at the Welcome Spot. Each time you reload the card at the store when buying your groceries,
CUC receives 5%!

Thrivent Financial Choice
CUC is a participating organization in Thrivent Financial's Thrivent Choice® program. Thrivent Choice is a charitable grant program allowing eligible members to recommend where Thrivent Financial distributes part of its charitable outreach grant funds each year. Eligible Thrivent Financial members can direct Thrivent Choice Dollars® to CUC in a particular month. If you have Choice Dollars available to direct, please consider directing them
to CUC. To learn more about Thrivent Choice, visit Thrivent.com/thriventchoice , or call Thrivent at 800-847-4836, and say "Thrivent Choice" when prompted.

Text Your Offering
In less time than it takes to write a check, you can now make your contribution to CUC with a quick text message!  Text "CUC $50" to 73256 to give $50 (for example) to Columbine United Church using your text messaging. You can adjust the dollar amount to whatever amount you would like to give.  Standard text message rates do apply. Thank you for our continued support of CUC! Your time, talent, and resources are helping us to change the world!

NEXT GENERATION
holiday-garland.jpg
Winter Trimester for Sunday School: We are beginning our winter trimester with the youngest generation of the church and we are blessed to have a group of five already signed up to help with the next few months of lessons. However, we are very much in need of roughly 8 more teachers to volunteer one Sunday every couple of weeks to spend the hour of the morning with the cutest faces of CUC! Please contact Dani or Jeannie for more questions if you are interested!

Warrior Teenager Suicide Awareness Workshop, Jan 6: This upcoming Sunday, following the 10:00 am service, the middle and high school youth groups will be meeting in Biel Hall to overview, discuss, and purchase the book, "Warrior Teenager," written by Mary Lynne Fernandez. Our time during this meeting will familiarize both parents and teenagers with the topics we will be discussing the next few weeks at youth group. Please directly email Dani with any questions or concerns at [email protected]

Warrior Teenager Book Club:  We will be starting off the New Year by discussing the topics of the book, Warrior Teenager, written by Mary Lynne Fernandez. The book is a positive spin on finding help and hope through the darkest of life's situations. No homework is required, so do not miss youth group because the word "book" is now involved! For more information on the book, follow this link http://thewarriorteenager.gr8.com

Youth Group Sunday, January 6th:    Middle school 5:00 - 6:30 pm and High School 6:30-8:00 pm.

Mission Committee

Our Alternative Christmas fundraising was a tremendous success! Steve challenged us with a goal of raising $5,000 for Heifer International and Church World Services ("CWS").  Our final giving total was $5,660.  In addition, Heifer International had some special programs that we were able to take advantage of that increased our gift by another $4,600 resulting in overall gifts of $10,260.

Our gifts range from Honeybees to water buffaloes and from a gift of clean water to helping empower Women.  Heifer International says that every animal given will eventually help 9 other families;  every family who receives one of the animals agrees to give an offspring to another family in need.

Here is what we provided: 8 ducks / geese, 37 flocks of chicks, 1 flock of hope, 2 gifts of clean water, 4.7 goats, 1.2 heifers, 5 colonies of honeybees, 0.4 llamas, 7.3 pigs, 6.5 rabbits, 0.4 seedlings, 1.6 sheep, 1.7 water buffalo, 1 women enhancement program, $420 where needed most and $70 to CWS.

My calculation shows that with the matching funds from Heifer, we were able to help over 140 families in North America, South America, Africa, Asia and Europe.  Knowing that 9 other families will be helped by each of our gifts means that over 1,400 families- or 8,400 people- will be positively impacted by our gifts.  Thank you to everyone.  This is an extremely positive start to 2019!
