Trudeau Ramps Up Campaign to Ban Guns From Licensed Owners

TheGunBlog.ca — Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau ramped up his campaign against federally licensed hunters and sport shooters today with a survey to promote gun bans and a brochure that said “any ban of handguns or assault weapons would primarily affect legal firearms owners.”
The opinion survey asks “Where should we focus efforts to limit handguns?” and “Where do you believe efforts to limit assault weapons should be focused?”
It’s a federal crime for anyone to buy, sell, own or transport any firearm without permission from the federal police.
Automatic rifles have been classified by law as “Prohibited” for decades and police confiscate them after their owners die.
‘Engagement Paper’
A 2,000 word “Engagement Paper” with headings such as “Gun Crime,” “Illicit Firearms” and “Firearms Smuggling” mentioned “crime” and “violence” at least 10 times each followed by anecdotes and statistics for both. It mentioned “hunting” and “sport shooting” twice each.
The pamphlet left out that shooting is one of Canada’s safest and most-popular sporting activities. It’s one of the original disciplines of the modern Olympics.
It failed to say that new bans could wipe out wealth invested in guns and gear from hundreds of thousands of families, shut down businesses and kill thousands of careers.
It omitted that the chief of the federal police in charge of gun licensing is among police leaders who don’t support new prohibitions for lawful individuals.

Bans for Votes
Gun bans are part of Trudeau’s crackdown on millions of men, women and youth who safely and responsibly use firearms for hunting, recreation and sport.
A public-relations firm that advises the government said in March that more restrictions on shooters present an “
untapped opportunity
” for Trudeau’s Liberal Party to win votes in the next election.
Wrong Target
“Any ban of handguns or assault weapons would primarily affect legal firearms owners, while the illicit market would be indirectly affected as there would be fewer available to potentially divert,” said one of today’s campaign documents, Reducing Violent Crime: A Dialogue on Handguns and Assault Weapons — Engagement Paper. “The vast majority of owners of handguns and of other firearms in Canada lawfully abide by requirements, and most gun crimes are not committed with legally-owned firearms,” the brochure said.

Petition to Oppose
The deadline to complete the online survey is Nov. 10. The government will also hold “
in-person stakeholder engagement sessions
” across Canada by invitation only. Minister Bill Blair will publish a report on the survey in “early 2019.”
A federal election is scheduled for next October. Michelle Rempel, a member of the opposition Conservative Party and a licensed shooter, sponsored a petition to oppose new bans that went online today on the
website
of the House of Commons.

Restrict, Prohibit, Confiscate
New bans would be in addition to the prohibitions in
Bill C-71
. If passed, the law will lead to the confiscation of as many as 15,000 lawfully owned rifles, make it easier to ban more, and make it tougher for gun owners to get, keep and use firearms. The bill is with the Senate and may take effect this year.
New restrictions on firearm imports are scheduled to start Dec. 1. Canada’s main firearm-industry group has said the so-called Firearms Marking Regulations threaten “
catastrophic damage
” to thousands of small businesses. The country imports almost every gun sold domestically.
About 2.2 million men and women have a firearm licence, more than play hockey. Millions more unlicensed family and friends of all ages also enjoy shooting under supervision. Licences to June 30 rose for 21 consecutive quarters to a
record
.
Today’s gun-ban marketing campaign didn’t mention:
- “Gun crime is less than one half of one percent of overall police-reported crime in Canada.” — Statistics Canada, 07 March 2018.
- Licensed firearm owners are statistically safer than the general population.
- The government of Ontario, home to almost a third of Canada’s licensed shooters, opposes new bans.
- The government of Saskatchewan, the province with the most gun owners as a percentage of the population, opposes new bans.
- The second most-signed e-petition in the history of the House of Commons opposed Bill C-71, which includes new bans.
- Every major national and provincial association of hunters and sport shooters opposes new bans.
- Jim Shockey, one of Canada’s best-known living hunters, opposes new bans.
- The Conservative Party opposes new bans and has pledged to repeal Bill C-71 if elected to govern.
- Active and retired police leaders oppose new bans.
- More than 90,000 men and women, mainly police, are required to carry loaded guns for personal and public safety.

Some Senators have stated they give no regard to form letters.

"Over the past three years, Senators have shown a far greater willingness to amend government bills than our MPs in the House of Commons. The Prime Minister can’t strip them of their Senate seats, making them far more amenable to common sense and far less affected by partisanship. It is in the Senate we believe resolutions could pass, dramatically reducing the harm of this legislation.
Your letter to the Senate does not need to be long and involved. It does, however, need to be original. Form letters do not make a positive impact.
Explain, simply and clearly, what you believe is wrong with this legislation and send an email copy to every Senator.

The latest gun-control legislation from the Liberals passed the House of Commons last week and has already cleared second reading in the Senate, and it’s ugly.
Bill C-71 repeals Stephen Harper's easing of rules around authorizations to transport restricted firearms, despite no evidence that the easing of restrictions caused an increase in gun crimes.
The law randomly declassified two popular and very expensive Canadian rifles, moving them from non-restricted to completely prohibited, apropos of nothing.
And that’s just the beginning. The Liberals aren’t done yet.
Canada’s newly minted Minister of gangs, guns and borders, Bill Blair, is ignoring the gangs and border problems and coming for your guns instead.
He’s in the middle of a nation-wide public consultation process and meeting with selected Liberal agenda driven experts to discuss a full nation-wide handgun and semi-auto ban.
This is the largest attack on Canadian firearms owners in a generation.

Ontario Minister Tibollo Defends Shooters, Rejects Gun, Ammo Ban

TheGunBlog.ca — Michael Tibollo, Ontario’s Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services, backed hunters and sport shooters this week and reiterated Premier Doug Ford’s rejection of any gun or ammunition bans.
“Our Premier has been very clear in his message that our government will not seek a handgun ban or an ammunition ban within the province of Ontario,” Tibollo
told
the provincial parliament on Oct. 4. “There are many law-abiding firearm owners within this great province.”
Ford and Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe have emerged as the strongest provincial opponents to the gun
prohibitions
being examined by the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, even beyond those in
Bill C-71
. Police leaders have also refused the idea of seizing firearms from licensed owners.
Toronto City Council
voted
in July to ask the federal government to ban all handguns and all semi-automatic rifles and shotguns from all federally licensed gun owners in Canada. Mayor John Tory asked target shooters to go somewhere else.
Tibollo was responding to Toronto Liberal MPP Mitzie Hunter’s
Bill 30
to allow cities to ban the supply of handgun ammunition. Her proposed law, which was stopped at second reading, didn’t even exempt the military or police.
If passed into law and adopted by municipalities, it would have disarmed lawful men and women while doing nothing to stop criminals who get guns and ammo unlawfully.
“The Bill was voted down but we will not stop fighting,” Hunter
said
on Twitter on Oct. 4.

All guns and ammunition are banned across Canada for anyone without a firearm Possession and Acquisition Licence authorized by the federal police. Getting a permit requires passing RCMP-designed safety courses and exams, and passing background and reference checks.

Canadian men and women have the permits, more than play hockey. Almost one-third of them live in Ontario.
“With regard to ammunition in the province, the chief firearms office — or CFO, as they are more commonly referred to — is responsible for enforcing the sale and purchase of ammunition in this province,” Tibollo said. “We’re confident in the CFO to enforce the law and to take appropriate steps when it comes to the sale of ammunition in the province.”
During question period earlier in the day, Hunter asked if the government supported handgun bans.
“It’s not guns that kill people; it’s the people who have guns illegally that kill people,” Tibollo said as part of his response.

Ford government should support efforts to ban handgun ammo sales

In the past two weeks, two Toronto teenagers have tragically been shot dead.
Mackai Bishop Jackson was only 15 when he was murdered on Sept. 25 inside the building where he lived. A week later, on Oct. 3, 18-year-old Elliott Reid-Doyle was killed in front of a pizza shop that was a hangout spot for high school students.
Sadly, these brazen shootings in broad daylight are not an anomaly. They’re part of a larger alarming trend. By Oct. 1, there had been 316 sho
otings in this city leading to 42 gun deaths. That last figure is up 40 per cent over last year, and puts Toronto on track to match the 52 people who were shot to death in 2005, the so-called “year of the gun.”
Fighting this deadly scourge will take urgent action from all levels of government to reduce the number of guns and the amount of ammunition in Canada. There’s no time to waste.
Happily, there’s promising action on that front. Toronto city council passed a resolution over the summer calling on the federal government to impose a ban on handguns and assault weapons, and asked the province to ban the sale of ammunition. As Mayor John Tory sensibly asked at the time: “Why does anyone in this city need to have a gun at all?”
Then, in September, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau directed Border Security Minister Bill Blair to lead a study of a “full ban on handguns and assault weapons in Canada.”
Now the Ford government has a chance to show similar leadership by allowing municipalities to ban the sale of handgun ammunition in their communities, as Toronto has requested.
Instead, though, the government actually appears set to block a private member’s bill introduced in the legislature last week by
Liberal MPP Mitzie Hunter
that would do exactly that.
After Hunter introduced the bill, Community Safety Minister Michael Tibollo echoed the well-funded gun lobby’s spin on the issue when he said: “It’s not guns that kill people; it’s the people that have guns illegally that kill people.”
Nor is Premier Doug Ford taking a constructive view on this pressing issue. He has previously said he doesn’t support a handgun ban because it targets lawful owners, not criminals.

A federal study on the effectiveness of a potential handgun and assault weapon ban has local gun owners questioning its effectiveness.

Growing up in the Toronto area, Doug Doyle first started recreational shooting at a camp when he was a teenager. It became a passion he continued in the form of hunting and the shooting sports.
Seven years ago, Doyle moved to Fort McMurray after becoming pastor of Fort City Church in Thickwood.
One day after a shooting competition at the Fort McMurray shooting range, photos of Doyle competing were uploaded to Facebook. Suddenly, an old friend from back home contacted him, concerned about the photos.
“I got a private message from a friend in Toronto with the phrase ‘remember where you’re from, you’re scaring us,’” he said. “I thought that’s the emotion. There’s no logic, it’s just an emotional thing.”
Doyle was not surprised. His friend had no first-hand experience with handguns or competitive shooting, he said, and felt his concern was a result of a lack of education on the topic.
“If I could get him out to the range and meet the people, all of that would dissipate in him,” said Doyle. “Because it’s not a world he’s familiar with or connected with, he just irrationally fears.”
Potential ban being studied
In August, the federal government announced it would study and examine what a full ban on handguns and firearms it considers to be assault weapons would look like in Canada, “while not impeding the lawful use of firearms by Canadians.”
Border Security and Organized Crime Reduction Minister Bill Blair says he will consult the public and experts until the end of the year about a possible ban. The directive has not yet led to any formal legislation in the House of Commons.
The decision came after a number of high-profile shootings, including a July shooting spree on a street in downtown Toronto that killed two girls, aged 10 and 18, and a 2017 shooting at a Quebec City mosque that left six worshippers dead.
Both Toronto and Montreal city councils have asked Ottawa to implement such bans.
David Yurdiga, MP for Fort McMurray-Cold Lake, said a handgun ban would be a blow to Wood Buffalo’s culture, arguing shooting sports and hunting is “part of who we are.”
“Legal gun owners are not the problem, it’s the criminal element that’s the problem,” he said. “If we don’t address that, the problem’s not going to stop.”
Statistics Canada data shows that in 2016, 223 homicides in Canada involved a firearm, an increase of 44 from 2015.
Handguns were used in 130 homicides that same year, a number last seen in 2005 when handguns were used in 131 homicides. The following year, handgun homicides dropped to 112.
About 54 per cent of homicides involving a firearm in 2016 were related to gang violence.
Yurdiga said the government should prioritize stopping firearms from being smuggled into Canada from the U.S., and fighting gangs and organized crime.
This has been a major argument from gun control critics, who have also pointed out that Canadians already face more hurdles to legally purchasing firearms compared to even the strictest jurisdictions in the U.S.
Before anyone can buy a firearm in Canada, the individual must pass a safety course for non-restricted firearms, or long-guns, then take another course for restricted firearms, such as handguns and certain types of rifles. All restricted firearms must be registered and can only be used at ranges for shooting sports.
After passing the courses, they must apply for the appropriate Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL), which includes references, criminal and mental health history, and current and former partners.
Legal gun owners feeling targeted
Doyle agrees preventing even one death is good, but doesn’t believe a ban would impact handgun violence.
“The majority of gun deaths in Canada are done by organized crime and gangs. So a gun ban is not going to change what’s happening there one bit,” he said. “I wish for a government that would take gun crime seriously and actually put resources into solving the problem.”
Doyle said the most frustrating part is that a ban will hurt hunters and sport shooters like himself.
“I feel that legitimate Canadians who are law abiding, outstanding citizens who have a sport that they enjoy are becoming a scapegoat for a fear and it’s just kind of irrational in the end,” he said.
“It will make the government look like it’s doing something, it will receive support from people, but in my view it’s not likely (going to) have any real impact except impose greater burdens on a community that’s a minority.”
Clayton Altares has been involved in sport shooting for six years. The social atmosphere is a major reason for sticking around, but to him, it’s just like any other sport.
“It would be no different than golf, whereas you’re practicing your swing, you’re practicing the breathing technique and everything you have to do with shooting to have an affective shot.”
At the range, Altares said safety is always the top priority. The only time anyone can have ammunition in a firearm is when they’re actually competing, and they must be supervised by a range safety officer.
There are also other protocols in case an accident happens, including having paramedics on scene.
“What we need to target is criminal activity and just education and gun safety with current generations.
Make people aware and respect firearms,” he said. “I know how firearms in today’s society is getting a really bad rap, but when you have proper safety regulations in place, it’s possible.”
Like Doyle, Altares doesn’t think banning handguns for all Canadians is the right course of action.
“We give 16-year-olds access to 500 horsepower cars and we’ve seen the damage it can do in terrorist attacks, so it’s no different,” said Altares. “It’s having the right mindset, the right skills, and awareness, and respect of the firearm. That’s what it comes down to.”

Police forces across the country should give up their weapons

Toronto Mayor John Tory wants to know why anyone in the city needs a gun. And, it seems, a majority of Canadians agree. Now that the federal government has announced it will study a potential ban on handguns and “assault weapons” and has announced it will begin holding public consultations, there’s an opportunity to have a more robust conversation about who in society ought to be armed. If such a ban is supposed to curtail gun violence by keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, then why would we still need armed police?
A recent
study
conducted by Nanos Research showed a majority of Canadians favour a handgun ban, while exempting police and security personnel. It also revealed 72 per cent of Canadians support or somewhat support spending more money on police, if that money were specifically directed toward combatting gun violence. The belief that we need armed police to respond to incidents involving firearms shows Canadians – although we make not like to admit it – are similar to our American neighbours. That is, that we need guns to combat guns.
This, however, is in stark contrast to other countries. There are approximately 20 countries around the world that don’t
routinely arm their police forces
. A diverse group of countries that includes small island nations in the South Pacific, African countries and members of NATO.
In Great Britain, carrying firearms is
seen as an obstacle
to building trusting relationships between police and communities. Former New Zealand police commissioner Peter Marshall
argued
that arming police would just lead to more people being shot when the police could have used other methods.
Having an unarmed population isn’t even necessary for having an unarmed police force. In Iceland, a country with a gun-possession rate similar to Canada, police don’t carry guns though its police special forces do. When armed special forces began patrolling public events in downtown Reykjavik
there was much public backlash
.
With frustrations toward police violence mounting across Canada – particularly in cities such as Toronto and Montreal that have seen many high-profile police killings – building greater trust between police and the communities they serve and ensuring public safety would be beneficial. This is especially important for Indigenous and black Canadian communities, who are significantly overrepresented as victims of police killings. In Toronto, black Canadians are approximately 8 per cent of the population but account for
37 per cent of those killed by police
. In Winnipeg, Indigenous people are approximately 10 per cent of the population but represent approximately two-thirds of those killed.
More worrying, even when adjusted for population growth, police killings are
on the rise across Canada
. The deadliest police force is the RCMP, accounting for over 25 per cent of all police killings from 2000 to 2017. And of the 461 victims killed during this period, more than 71 per cent were shot and more than 70 per cent suffered from mental illness or addiction.
Removing firearms from a police officer’s arsenal creates a situation where other de-escalation tactics can be used – and can be used successfully. During 2016 in London, for example, the Metropolitan Police responded to approximately 3,300 incidents involving firearms
without firing a single bullet
.
This doesn’t mean that no Canadian police officer would ever have access to a gun.
Police forces should still be allowed to have a specialized unit that would only be deployed in specific active-shooter situations – such as the Quebec City mosque shooting or Toronto Danforth street shooting – similar to police special forces in Iceland.
That so many Canadians are in favour of a ban on handguns and “assault weapons,” yet still want to invest more heavily in police, suggests the quest to disarm citizens is driven by anger and a desire to punish the many gun owners for the crimes of the few. It also raises the question of why Canadians are so comfortable with representatives of the state carrying firearms with accompanying legislation that allows them to shoot children and kill unarmed people.
Further muddying the waters is the fact that police forces are not mandated to keep statistics – and many don’t – on their use of force, especially lethal use of force. It took researchers at the CBC six months to compile a list of the 461 fatal encounters between police and civilians across Canada from 2000 to 2017. Their final report, called Deadly Force, was the first such national database assembled in Canada.
A healthy society functions with mutual trust between the state and its citizens. But how can there be trust if the data for the police use of force isn’t standardized or readily available? If the federal government decides to move forward with a ban on handguns and asks law-abiding gun owners to sacrifice and give up their personal property, it should be equally willing to ask police forces across the country to give up their weapons.
It’s undeniable that Canada has a gun-violence problem. And as I’ve
previously argued
, the country needs solutions that are both innovative and bold. But a limited gun ban driven by a desire for retribution instead of a will to create safer communities for everyone, isn’t one of them. If the purpose of disarming the public is to reduce the number of people who are shot, disarming the police must be a cornerstone of that. Canada can join the ranks of 20 other countries across the world and fundamentally shift the relationship between police officers and the communities they serve.

While Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is studying a national handgun ban, urged on by cities like Toronto and Montreal, a deadly crime wave going on in Toronto right now shows why this idea is a farce.
That’s because in Toronto, the real solution to rapidly escalating homicides and gun violence is staring our politicians in the face, and they’re pretending it doesn’t exist.
Three years ago, the now-defeated Ontario government of former Liberal premier Kathleen Wynne initially suspended and then effectively banned carding, meaning police street checks in which officers interview people on the streets who are not accused of crimes and record the information.
Opponents of carding convinced the government this was racist.
The problem is street checks are a key method of police intelligence gathering, crucial to effective law enforcement.
Toronto Sun
police reporter Chris Doucette this week, using the Freedom of Information Act, statistically documented what has happened since then.
It shows shootings, homicides and gun deaths in Toronto have dramatically increased since carding was effectively banned after 2013, the last year in which carding was fully operational, before it was initially suspended and then replaced by a new provincial policy which made it unrealistic to do street checks.
In 2013, there were 196,907 street checks, 205 shootings, 57 homicides and 22 gun murders in Toronto.
In 2017, there were 25 street checks and 392 shootings, 65 homicides and 39 gun murders.
In 2018, with one street check up to June 19, and with three months to go in the year, there have been 310 shootings, 81 homicides and 42 gun murders as of Sept. 23
Comparing 2013 to 2017, shootings in Toronto were up 91%, homicides up 14%, gun murders up 77%.
By the end of 2018, all of these grim statistics will be significantly higher than in 2017.
And compared to 2013, with three months to go, gun murders are up 95%, homicides up 44% (including one incident in which 10 innocent bystanders were killed in a terrorist-like van attack), with Toronto recording its 82nd homicide and 43rd gun murder since Doucette’s column appeared.
“The city is in crisis and I don’t understand how anyone can deny it,” retired staff-inspector Mike Earl, head of the Toronto police Holdup squad until last year, told Doucette. “The bad guys are running the streets. The provincial regulations need to be revised. The longer they wait, the worse it’s going to be.”
Despite an ongoing municipal election campaign, major candidates are terrified of acknowledging this, lest they be accused of racism by special interest groups and the
Toronto Star,
which relentlessly campaigned for carding to be banned.
Mayor John Tory and city council asked the Trudeau government in July for the authority to outlaw the sale of handguns and ammunition in Toronto, and for Ottawa to ban handguns, assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons across the country, except for police, military and security uses.
That’s what the Trudeau government is studying, ignoring the fact handguns — the weapon of choice for Toronto’s gun-toting gangsters — have been banned in Canada since 1934, except for collectors and target shooters, and the reason it doesn’t work is that criminals don’t obey the law.
But don’t tell our politicians, even as the carnage grows.

– Legal handgun owners aren’t the problem

This letter is prompted by a Toast in “Roasted and Toasted” where the Toaster asked anyone to convince them we don’t need a handgun ban in Canada.
I would not try and convince you, but would suggest you give sport shooting a try; you could do that through the local Fish and Game organization with a professional instructor. You might like it.
I think a lot of people in Canada, that aren’t knowledgeable about our present firearms laws, get confused based on what they see happening in the U.S. There is zero comparison between Canada and the U.S. when it comes to firearms laws. Every legal handgun in Canada is registered, you can only sell it to a person with a valid Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) and is administered and approved by the RCMP. To have a restricted PAL (for handguns) there is an extensive background check and you are monitored 24/7 by the RCMP. So, if you were stupid enough to sell it illegally and someone committed a crime with it, it would be traced back to you, with appropriate consequences.
Contrary to what the politicians are telling you, legal handgun owners are not selling handguns to gangs and criminals. You make a valid point when you suggest handguns don’t necessarily provide protection if you were attacked, but not because of the danger to yourself. Handguns, like all firearms, must always be in locked storage and the ammunition must be stored in a separate location. Not very protective, unless the criminal gives you advance warning.
So why not ban handguns? The simple and true answer is, shooting a handgun is a sport. Like all sports it takes a lot of practice and skill to get good at it and I know you won’t understand this, but it is also fun. There are sports that I don’t understand why anyone would want to do them, but I don’t suggest we ban them. I am guessing you might say “not the same thing, guns are dangerous and could cause injury and death.” True, but so are a lot of other sports. I don’t have the numbers, but my guess is, considering at least all contact sport, injuries and even deaths are considerably higher. So, let’s ban all contact sports.
Regarding pro-gun owners yelling and protesting, it is happening everywhere, when people feel their freedoms are being taken away from them. Sport shooting, including the Olympics, is a huge worldwide sport.

Shimano Canada and the all-party Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus of Canada have partnered to fund scholarships for ten dedicated post-secondary students committed to advancing their education in fish and wildlife management/research science.
Shimano Canada and the Outdoor Caucus (OC) are offering ten (10) $3000 CDN college/university scholarships for the 2018-19 school year for students enrolled in a fish and wildlife sciences major in an accredited academic institution in Canada or the United States. The award will be made directly to the students and can be used for tuition, textbooks or living expenses.

Recently, we covered a bunch of new bills that were passed by the legislature in California which were headed to the Governor's desk. And as you would expect, Governor Brown signed five bills into law. If it's any relief, he did veto three bills that the legislature had also passed.
Let's hit those first.
Governor Brown vetoed SB 221, which we previously called “The Bullsh*t Act” and would have banned gun shows at the famous Cow Palace. In his veto message, the Governor noted that this bill had been vetoed twice in the past 10 years, once by himself and once by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He went on to say that the decision of the kind of shows that occur at the Cow Palace rests with the local board of directors, which is in the best position to make those decisions because it represents a broad cross-section of the community.
Also vetoed was SB1177, which we nicknamed “The Rationing of Firearms Act”, and would have limited firearm purchases to one every 30 days. The Governor noted that he previously vetoed a similar bill in 2016 and his views hadn't changed. Lastly, AB 1903 was vetoed. That's the bill which would have prohibited dispensing gift cards from gun sellers for gun buyback programs. The Governor stated that he understood the intent, but didn't believe those programs needed to be micromanaged to that degree.
So, what did the Governor sign? SB 1100 which we had titled the “You Must Be This Tall to Freedom Act” which prohibits the sale or transfer of a firearm by a licensee to anyone under 21 years of age, with a few exemptions. Those include a valid hunting license issued by the state, law enforcement and members of the military. Apparently, the legislature and governor of California feel that people like a 20-year-old single mother just doesn't have the right to defend herself and her children.
Also signed was AB 1968, which we called “It's Ok to Be Crazy Once, Crazy Twice Lose Your Rights Act” which imposes a lifetime prohibition on anyone who has been taken into custody, assessed, and admitted to a designated facility because he or she is a danger to himself, herself, or others, as a result of a mental health disorder two or more times in any one year period. As we previously discussed there is a petition process to attempt to get your rights restored, however, if the petition is denied, you have to wait 5 years before you can try again.
Then there are the three bills which we did not previously talk about. Governor Brown also signed SB 1200, which amended California's Gun Violence Restraining Orders or GVROs to include a ban on the possession of magazines. It previously just covered firearms and ammunition. In that same vein, he also signed AB 2526 which allows GVROs to be issued verbally by Judicial Officers in certain circumstances. So rather than just having to get stuff in writing, they can just tell you that you're screwed.
Lastly, the Governor put pen to paper on AB 3129 and christened a new law that implements a lifetime ban on firearm ownership by individuals convicted of any misdemeanor crime of domestic violence. You know…because Lautenberg Amendment hasn't been a thing since the mid 90's, which is exactly the same thing.
Once again we see California continue to march steadily forward towards more gun control. It almost seems that the state is enacting new laws for the sake of enacting new laws. But hey, apparently there's no prize for having too few laws in place.

A black gun owner slammed those who would want to restrict guns from law-abiding citizens during a Tuesday city council meeting on how to combat gun violence.
“You want to restrict my right to buy a firearm and protect myself from some of the very people you are talking about in here tonight,” Mark Robinson, a Greensboro, N.C., resident said. “The law-abiding citizens of this community, of other communities we are the first ones taxed and the last ones considered.”
Robinson spoke out a city council
meeting held to address how the community should handle gun violence and whether it should cancel an upcoming “
Gun and Knife Show
.
” The Greensboro gun owner argued it was far past time for the government to listen to the “majority” in America: law-abiding citizens who might want to buy guns.
“I’m the majority. I’m a law-abiding citizen who has never shot anybody,” Robinson said. “Never committed a serious crime. Never committed a felony. I’ve never done anything like that. It seems like every time we have one of these shootings, nobody wants to put the blame where it goes, which is at the shooter’s feet. You want to put it at my feet. You want to turn around and restrict my rights.”

White South Africans Did Not Give Up their Weapons—Looming Racial War!

People all over the world sat on their hands, fretted, clucked their tongues, were saddened, then collectively ignored the genocide of almost a million Rwandan Tutsis during a hundred day period in 1994. UN officials watched, waffled, and waited for someone, anyone to do something. No one did.
I’m afraid the sequel to that real-life African horror movie is being shot in South Africa as I write but with new characters.
The white farmers’ groups in South Africa were appalled at the illegal land-grab promoted by the ruling African National Congress (ANC) saying its members would consider land expropriation without compensation as “a declaration of war.”
They mean a shooting WAR as in bang, bang and they have the weapons that cause big bangs.
In 2010, the government passed gun-grabbing laws requiring that all guns be re-registered and in the process of registration, more than half the applicants were refused and their guns were confiscated. However, only a fool believes the white farmers willingly got rid of their only means of defense.
All unregistered weapons are to be surrendered to the nearest police station. But often the police stations are the most dangerous places. Robbery and rape are frequent as crime victims go to the station to make their claims. There have been many reports of crime victims reporting crimes only to have investigating police rob and rape them when they came to their homes in response to a call to the authorities or when they went to the police station to report a crime.
Transparency International found that 74 percent of people think all public officials and civil servants are corrupt or extremely corrupt, while 70 percent believe the whole political system is corrupt. So, what sane person (black or white) would trust corrupt police to do anything right when choosing to surrender to them expensive guns thereby leaving themselves vulnerable to vicious violence?
The South African Police Service (SAPS) revealed in 2013 that
1,448 serving police officers
(many were top brass) are convicted criminals—among them a major-general, ten brigadiers, 21 colonels, ten majors, 43 lieutenant-colonels, 163 captains, 84 lieutenants, and 716 warrant officers. “The 1,448 police it uncovered had all been convicted of ‘serious crimes’ ranging from murder and attempted murder to rape, assault, corruption, theft, robbery, house-breaking, drug trafficking, domestic violence and aiding escapees.”
The SAPS was given one year to clean out the stable but failed to do so.
It is no surprise that Whites and Blacks refuse to report crimes to corrupt, even violent, police officers. It is also no surprise that no one believes even the very high crime statistics are close to being accurate.
Since it is not safe to report crimes requiring having police come into their homes, many crimes are never reported.
Many white farmers own vast farms with no close neighbors and have always relied on themselves and their farm hands to police their own neighborhoods. They have traditionally been well armed. After all, it is Africa! You know—lions, elephants, rhinos, Nile crocodiles, snakes, Cape buffalo, and hippos, the most dangerous of all.
Authorities who expect farmers to live without weapons have to be insane, heartless thugs, or are embracing a nefarious agenda.
Even if a gun license is permitted, it is so restrictive that it is almost useless. The two most requested permits require a “shotgun which is not fully or semi-automatic; or handgun which is not fully automatic.” Now, take such a weapon and protect yourself from a charging black rhino at 34 miles per hour, or worse, two charging black rhinos running 34 miles per hour.
Normal people might think that if a case can be made for gun control in the cities, it sure can’t be made for the farms and jungles. Maybe, it is not about gun control but as always, it is about people control. It must be kept in mind that South Africa is run by the Communist Party.
The Communist-controlled government is on record to take farms from white farmers and give them to Blacks. But white farmers will not go there without force being used. Black thugs have been intimidating and killing white farmers for years and the lethal attacks are accelerating.
Since the end of apartheid, more than 3,000 white farmers have been killed. Twenty years ago, there were 60,000 white farmers; now there are 30,000 according to the
BBC.
And the black Communist government demands they have no protection in their isolated areas.
The
BBC
reported, “In South Africa you are twice as likely to be murdered if you are a white farmer than if you are a police officer—and the police here have a particularly dangerous life. The killings of farmers are often particularly brutal.” Andre Botha of the farmers’ union Agri SA (founded in 1904) says there have been 11,785 attacks and 1,804 farmers murdered since the ANC assumed power, an average of two murders per week. Many of these have been gruesome.
And the Communist-controlled government refuses to permit white farmers to have guns!
Dr. Gregory H. Stanton of Genocide Watch said, “The rates at which the farmers are being eliminated, the torture and dehumanization involved—all point to systematic extermination.”
I reported in a recent column that Stanton in 2012 conducted a study in South Africa and came to an incredible conclusion: “There is a coordinated campaign of genocide being conducted against white farmers.” Many of the Whites surrendered their guns when the ANC government passed gun laws to confiscate the farmers’ weapons.
Genocide Watch said, “Disarmament of a targeted group is one of the surest early warning signs of future genocidal killings.”
The Economic Freedom Fighters led by radical, racist, and revolutionary Julius Malema unashamedly displays the banner, “A revolutionary must become a cold killing machine motivated by pure hate” and that is being seen every day as the most recent stats reveal there are 57 murders per day!
In light of the above, let’s look at gun control in that dark and troubled land in relationship to gun control in Australia.
Australia’s compulsory gun confiscation/buyback program collected more than 650,000 (some say almost a million) guns during 1996 and 1997. They also sharply restricted legal ownership of guns, established a gun registry of gun owners, and required a permit for any new gun purchases. There is no purpose to discuss that program
per se
other than to say it was not the unqualified success Aussie officials claim.
I have been to Australia four times spending a month or more each visit. We spent most of our time in the provinces (states) of New South Wales, Queensland, and limited time in Victoria and a few days on the resort area of the Great Barrier Reef. We did spend some time in the outback and in the bush which is anyplace outside metropolitan areas. We had dinner with some of the ranchers who revealed a different perspective on the gun program that I’ve not heard before (and am revealing here for the first time) that relates to South Africa’s gun control attempts.
We were told that the federal government of Australia was snookered by wily Aussies who sold their junk guns and later replaced them with better guns. We were also informed that some of their expensive antique guns sold in the buy-back program were collector’s items that were not destroyed but ended up in the basement or den of local police authorities.
So, Australians have not disarmed themselves and neither have the white farmers of South Africa. Even more so, the South Africans have not because of the vast difference in the ever-present danger. South Africans have good reason to believe their own weapons may be used against them or against other innocent people. Or at least the guns may become prized possessions of black politicians.
And the very likely possibility they will be tortured and killed by black thugs motivated by government leaders is a probability, not possibility.
How will citizens react when a flunky of the ANC goes door to door saying, “Well, hello there. I’m from the federal government and I’m here to take your guns today”? That will happen in some cases but not often outside the cities on land owned, cut out of the jungle, and defended for over 300 years by white farmers.
That will be especially true when they realize they will be devoured as surely as fresh meat in a shark tank.
South Africa is rushing pell-mell toward coercion, conflict, and chaos; hundreds of thousands of all tribes and races will die while the silence on this issue in America is deafening.
And the United Nations will be as effective in keeping order and saving lives as they were in Rwanda.

That first shot is always the most important, your chance to set the tone. When hunting in a new place, with people you don’t know, there’s a certain pressure to prove your mettle, to show you deserve the privilege of hunting their grounds. And it’s not meet-the-parents nervousness. It’s more like the-jury-is-back anxiety.
Fortunately, I had little time to think about that when that first cackling Pelee Island pheasant launched from cover about 30 metres out. Reacting on pure instinct, I shouldered my shotgun, pushed the stacked barrels out in front of the crossing bird and hit the switch. The rooster crumpled mid-air and had barely tumbled back to the ground before he was firmly in the grasp of the Labrador that had rousted him from his hideaway.
It was the first flush and I’d passed the test. Of course, as the rest of that day and the next revealed, I was more than capable of missing gimme shots, but nothing settles the nerves like getting out of the gate without stumbling—especially when you’re on a fabled, bucket-list hunt like this.

insurance covers:
- Defence from prosecution should you be charged with an offence arising out of the use, storage, display, transportation or handling of a firearm;
- cases where a firearm is used in self defence, the defence of a person under your protection or the defence of your property;
- appealing an event where a licensing, regulatory or judicial authority refuses to renew, suspends, revokes, cancels or alters the terms of your firearms license. Note that this provision does not apply to new license applications.
It will pay for:
- The cost of retaining a lawyer or other appointed representative, including court fees, experts’ fees, police reports and medical reports;
- costs awarded by the court to opponents in civil cases if the insured person has been ordered to pay them, or pays them with the agreement of the insurance company;
- lost salary or wages for the time the insured is off work to attend court or any other hearing at the request of the appointed representative, up to a maximum of $500 per day, and $10,000 in total.
