In 2012, Bethel offered an intentional time of congregational discernment called Bethel Becoming.

Five years later, in 2017, we began another intentional time of congregational discernment called Bethel Reforming.

Now, five years later in 2022, we are inviting you to come together again as a congregation for a time of discernment that we are calling Bethel Adapting.

We will be asking these and other similar questions:
What is God up to RIGHT NOW in our life together and in our midst?
What is God leading us to do with our outdoor space and building?
What ministries can we imagine and envision beginning or renewing?
Where in the community is God calling us to serve?
How will our sanctuary renovation lead us to adapt our ministry?

We will offering three different Sundays this summer as a time of brainstorming, discerning and discovering where the Spirit is leading us. Each gathering will take place immediately following worship and last until noon.

Mark you calendars for May 15, June 19, July 17.

We hope you will join with your Bethel family as together we shape anew our future and discern the "New Day" God has in store for our ministry here!
We plan to begin again with having fresh bread for weekly communion beginning in June. In preparation, we are asking for bread bakers to join this wonderful ministry!

We have two recipes available that we have used. One is a recipe from and used by Luther Seminary in Minneapolis which includes for many years no yeast. The other recipe is the one that has been used by our Virginia Synod at our yearly Power in the Spirit conference. This one does include yeast. Of course, if you have one you would like to suggest we welcome your input.

There will be a sign-up sheet available at the Hospitality table in the narthex for next number of weeks, or you can let us know of your interest by emailing Bethel at
Power in the Spirit
July 14-16
Roanoke College

Every year our Synod offers a Synod-wide Christian Education event called Power in the Spirit. It includes learning sessions and worship and fellowship. It is held every year at Roanoke College. Our very own George Donovan has been leading the music for 10 years now.

This it is being held in conjunction with the "Synod Gathering" (which is in place of the Assembly this year). Everyone is welcome to attend.

We'd like to offer a special invitation to our Bethel family because not only will we celebrate the 10 years that George has given to this wonderful ministry, but on Friday evening, at the Festival Worship service, Bethel member Bruce Lothrop will be commissioned as part of the first class of graduates from the Virginia Synod Lay Preaching Academy, of which Pastor Dave is a leader.

You can find out more by downloading the booklet and schedule below and you can register as well with the Registration link below. We will have information available at Bethel each week as well on the hospitality table.

Bethel supports a wonderful young man, former Bethel member, Kyle Duff, as he attends seminary at Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. If you would like to help support Kyle, please consider a gift to our SEMINARIAN FUND.

Help support our music ministries through regular giving to the JONES/JOYNER MUSIC FUND. Your donations help support Shenandoah University Scholarship Students, and provide additional musicians for worship and special events.

Thank you for your support of our mission & ministry at Bethel!

To make an offering, please use one of the methods described below.
