From the desk of Amy Neill, Director of Education
As we wrap up in 2020, we can now see how much we learned from its challenges and look forward to sharing its silver linings with you in 2021! "All the Arts for All of Us" means more now than it ever did before. Our Enhanced Access to Education Project (generously funded by private donors, the Kelly Foundation, and the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation) will not only continue to offer online classes and workshops but will soon feature lectures, gallery tours, demonstrations, and more, both through ZOOM and a new subscription service that will allow users to enjoy an archive of classes and other educational opportunities at their own pace.

This platform will enable our incredible instructors to reach a broader audience, and it will allow us to expand our faculty to include many new highly qualified artist instructors from far beyond the bridges. This project therefore serves both the student and the instructor. What makes this program extra special is that we can provide free access to at-risk populations so they can participate from home, school, or partner organizations in the health and human services. This is an exciting upgrade to our Rise and Shine program, which provides free mentorships and workshops to those in need. And it will allow us to accommodate all levels of ability more easily because a given digital class can include many more students, including those with special needs and challenges.

Community means everything to us at the Cultural Center. And we know you feel it when you walk through our doors. From learning from the best of the best, to getting down with a fun DIY project, our classes aim for inclusivity. We hope that, in 2021, they’ll include you.

We look forward to seeing you in the new year!
Please note the Cultural Center is currently closed and will reopen to the public on January 5th.

If you haven't made a 2020 gift to the Cultural Center, now is the time.

This year you may choose to use the above-the-line charitable deduction as everyone is entitled to a charitable deduction this year. Typically, there is no tax benefit for giving to charity unless you itemize deductions. However, the CARES Act created an above-the-line deduction of up to $300 for cash contributions from taxpayers who don't itemize. If you would like to take advantage of this provision, make sure to donate before the end of the year. Click here to make a year-end gift.

Your support is much appreciated. We hope you are all staying cozy and safe, and we look forward to seeing you in 2021!

Pricilla Husband
My 35 years of landscape gardening on Cape Cod have revealed all the possible gardens and introduced me to all aspects of gardening. Installing and maintaining gardens throughout the years has been my teacher. Finding a balance between our desired gardens and successful gardens is the result. Every day I learn and share with my clients and friends. As a Master Gardener graduate from the Cape Cod Extension program, I have access to regional information that applies to the Cape. My love of gardening and enthusiasm motivates me to help others achieve their goals in the natural space we all love here on Cape Cod. I was born on the Cape and balance my time between here in the growing season and a small island in Panama during the winter months. My family has lived on the Cape for over 60 years. My daughter grew up in Dennis, and my parents are buried across the street in the South Dennis "Sea Captains."

Nate Olin
Nate Olin is a painter who teaches and lives on Cape Cod. His work has been shown at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum, the Cape Cod Museum of Art, Cotuit Center for the Arts, Falmouth Arts Center, the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, School House Gallery, Cove Gallery, the Creative Hands Gallery, and the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. In 2020 Nate became the newest artist in residence at the Cultural Center and serves as an Education Committee member. In the fall of 2020, Nate exhibited work in the Ancestry/Legacy show at Highfield Hall and a solo show at the Cultural Center. In 2018, he won the Jurors Choice Award from the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, and in 2019 he was the first creative arts teacher to be awarded the Schieffelin Bowl for his contributions and excellence in teaching. Nate remains a board member of the Cape Cod and Islands Art Educators Association. Before moving to the Cape, Nate lived and painted in NYC, where he had numerous solo exhibits and group shows in the East Village and SoHo.

Jim Sefcik
Jim Sefcik has been studying the American Revolution for more than 50 years and has taught courses on the subject at the college level as well as ALL programs in New York, Pennsylvania, and on the Cape. He earned degrees from Saint Joseph's University and Temple University and is ABD from Notre Dame. HUMANITIES

Beginning January 20
Aspects of the American Revolution
With Jim Sefcik
Six Wednesdays from 1-2:30pm

For over 200 years, many have been intrigued by the history of the American Revolution, how and why it began, how independence from Great Britain was achieved, and what resulted because of that transformation. It is a complex story that undergoes constant reassessment. Thus, what we might have learned in the past, like the midnight ride of Paul Revere for example, has been the subject of much research resulting in often dramatic changes from past presentations. This class will be the first of a 4-part series examining the American Revolution through a chronological, topical approach. It will explore the causes of the American Revolution, the events leading to colonial opposition, the Boston “Massacre,” the Boston “Tea Party” and its impact, the critical and decisive year of 1774, and a detailed look at the Loyalists or Tories and others disaffected by the times.
