Local Church Year End Reports due January 31

Local Church Report Forms

We want to thank the clergy and church leadership for their patience as the EOC has transitioned to this new program for entering year end data. We know there have been some delays and hiccups, but we do appreciate everyone's diligience to complete the task. The Year End reports are due to be submitted by January 31. If you are having trouble, do not hesitate to contact the district office for assistance.

You can find links below to instructions as well as the log-in page for the new AC Stats system. As a reminder your username will be the church's GCFA number, which you can get from your church's remittance statement. The passcode for entering the 2022 year-end stats will be EOCSTATS22!, this passcode will change every year.

Nonprofit Employee Parking Tax Repealed
Section 512(a)(7) of the Internal Revenue Code, commonly referred to as the “parking tax”, was repealed on December 20, retroactive to the date of its enactment (January 1, 2018). As a result, tax-exempt employers (such as our churches) will no longer have to increase their unrelated business taxable income (“UBTI”) by amounts paid or incurred for providing parking and public transportation benefits to their employees. Despite guidance passed at the end of 2018, this section of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act caused concern due to the prospect of increased tax liability, the lack of clarity for determining the taxable amount and the administrative burdens the Act presented.

If any church filed a Form 990-T to report the unrelated business taxable income and pay the tax related to providing parking and/or public transportation benefits, the church is encouraged to consult its tax advisor to see if the church should file an amended Form 990-T and also should check to see if a state tax refund might be available.

United Methodist Insurance Program Revisions
The Book of Discipline requires local church trustees to annually review and report on the adequacy of local church property and liability insurance coverage “to ensure that the church, its properties, and its personnel are properly protected against risks.” Since 1797, The Book of Discipline has provided that the property and assets of local churches are held in trust for the benefit of the denomination. Inadequate insurance puts local church property and assets at risk. Read the revised UMC Minimum Insurance Requirements.

Amplify Media Subscription Replaces Former EOC Media Center
Resourcing requires adaptability. Beginning this month, the former Media Center is closed, and East Ohio Conference churches have the opportunity to join Amplify Media to stream thousands of digital study, worship, and devotional videos, each with an emphasis on Wesleyan perspectives and each accessible anywhere from any device. While we celebrate the longtime faithful ministry of the Media Center and those who served in it, conversations about an Amplify Media partnership were born from our commitment to be good stewards of apportioned resources. Last year fewer than one in four churches used the apportionments-supported DVD resources of the Media Center.

An Amplify Media basic membership costs $29.99/month and provides access for up to 100 members of a member church to access/download resources. For East Ohio Conference churches that join Amplify Media by March 30, 2023, by using the online coupon code EOCUMC there is a special rate during the first year of membership.

Amplify Media is being offered through the Connectional Ministries office of the EOC.
The Connectional Ministries office connects East Ohio Conference pastors, congregations, and faith communities with resources to assist in fulfilling our shared mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
Visit the Connectional Ministries webpage to learn about their services and resources.
THE NOBLES IN CONCERT

From a young age, Timothy has desired to honor God with his music, particularly the great hymns. Not only is he an accomplished pianist, but also a marvelous singer. Hosanna began her music lessons at the age of 5. She was soon drawn to the violin and has been performing ever since.

God brought this couple together and they are now traveling full-time, along with other family members, doing concerts. Their programs proclaim the gospel, offer encouragement, and bring honor and glory to our great God.

Union Hill UMC is located at 7877 Union Hill Rd. NW, Sugarcreek, OH. Learn more about Timothy and Noble at their website https://timothynobleplayspiano.com/
