Patient Payment Emails - Reminder of Changes

What's new?

Patients will now receive an email from MyDataHelps when a study compensation payment has been processed. To enable this, the DCC added three new segments (0.17–0.19) in MyDataHelps Designer that trigger an automatic email notification at 7am EST, the day after the DCC processes a payment. The email informs patients that a check from the University of Michigan will arrive within 1–2 weeks.

Why did we make this change?

  • To better communicate to patients when they should expect payments and from which institution (UM)
  • Reduce confusion from patients asking where their payment is
  • Provide information to CRCs about when patients payments were processed

What to look for:

  • New segments in MyDataHelps Designer
  • New custom fields in the Participant Info tab of each patient's MDH profile
  • Paid Dates and compensation amounts in the Payment tab of MQUARK

Getting to Know the Team - Oregon Health & Science University Hospital

Michael Aziz, MD

Oregon Health & Science University Hospital

Dr. Aziz is a Professor and the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs at Oregon Health & Science University. While busy administratively, he has been passionate about research in airway management and serves as MPOG Site PI. As a long standing MPOG PI, he has watched OHSU's contribution and impact grow. When THRIVE was conceived, he was very excited to see MPOG take the natural steps from observation studies, to enhanced observational studies, to large scale clinical trials. The question asked is incredibly important to clinical anesthesiologists and he simply wanted to contribute to that answer. The coordination of this study and its leaders have been remarkable. It’s been awesome to see the study progress successfully.

Sarah Feller

Oregon Health & Science University Hospital

Sarah is the Clinical Research Manager for the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at OHSU. She has been an active member of research at OHSU for nearly 25 years and has enjoyed her transition from bench science to clinical research. She has really enjoyed participating in THRIVE and getting to reach out to community members who have chosen to participate in the trial. She thinks that the trial is going to provide important insight and improve clinical care for patients, and that has always been her motivation for working in research at OHSU. During her time outside of her clinical research duties, Sarah volunteers her time to coach shot put for a youth track and field program.

Claire May

Oregon Health & Science University Hospital

Hello everyone! Claire is the Clinical Research Coordinator of the THRIVE Study at OHSU in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Portland. Working on the THRIVE Study has given Claire insights into the field of anesthesia and clinical research. She is especially grateful for the opportunity to connect with patients and OR staff. In this role, she has improved her skills in clear communication, whether she is explaining the study to patients or communicating the protocol to the anesthesia team. Additionally, working in a fast-paced clinical environment has taught her how to stay organized and prioritize tasks. Overall, Claire is very thankful to work with such a hardworking and wonderful team. Fun fact: Outside of work, Claire enjoys running and kayaking!
