Ahead of the Game: Jordan Hayes '16
|
|
Since it's inception 10 years ago, many success stories have followed the 615 students who have gone through the
Pre-Professional Internship Program
here at Trinity. Whether it be in business, marketing, landscaping design, or any other walk of life, students have found their passion while working in high school through our unique program. One of those students is 2016 graduate Jordan Hayes, a nursing student at
Cleveland State University
who is also a nurses aide at
University Hospital Ranbow Babies and Children's Hospital
. As you may have already guessed, a place where Jordan interned while at THS! "I interned at Rainbow Babies my senior year and have never left," Jordan said with a smile. "I love it at Rainbow and working with kids. I have always felt very prepared, because of the medical track at Trinity."
From a young age, Jordan seemed destined to serve others. Both of her grandmothers were nurses, one even trained paramedics, and her father worked in a hospital right out of college and teaches medical science classes at Trinity. "I fell in love with the hospital setting and nursing as a kid. I originally wanted to be a nanny because I love working with kids, so I chose pediatrics. Kids don't understand their illness so they are happy when you come into the room and they love talking to you. I see kids take their first steps, say their first words, get adopted, all those little things make the job so fulfilling."
Trinity has truly been a family affair for the Hayes family for over 2 decades. Her dad, Scott Hayes is a long-time teacher of the med classes at the school, her mom Missy has done everything from volunteering at the Spirit Shop to helping lead the charge for the Out of the Blue benefit, and Jordan's sister Grace is a 2018 graduate of the school. "I love Trinity. Some of my best memories live in those halls. Winning the state championship in Cheerleading, getting to regionals in soccer, playing softball and running track are some of my best memories. Going to school with Grace because we are so close and seeing my dad everyday was very special."
Jordan is extremely grateful for the internship program and the medical track putting her on a career path at such a young age. "With my first nursing classes at CSU, I was relearning what I had already learned in high school. At Trinity I was able to draw blood, do a urinalysis, smear blood, and do things that my college classmates don't learn until they are sophomores! I am so lucky that I have known what I wanted to do because of my internship experience at THS." Her father smiles any time someone asks about Jordan, "I couldn't be more proud of her," said Mr. Hayes. "I've watched her work very hard, in a very difficult discpline, and do all of the right things to put herself into the position to see her desires come to fruition."

Honoring Ohio's Ms. Basketball!
|
December 9 will be a historical day for the Trojans girls basketball program. The #40 of 1994 Ohio Ms. Basketball and 2-time All-American, NaSheema Hillmon (Anderson), will be retired and hung on the walls of Godlewski Gym. She will join Vonda Ward's #24, retired in 2018, and Semeka Randall's #22, who will be honored this January 29.
NaSheema still holds the Ohio record for most rebounds in a state championship game with 14 during the Lady Trojans 1994 title. She is in the Ohio High School Hall of Fame, averaging almost 19 points and 14 rebounds during her career at Trinity before attending Vanderbilt to continue her athletic and academic career.
The retirement ceremony begins at 6:30 before the
Lady Trojans
tip off their home season against Wickliffe. Long-time local and national TV personality Ron Jantz will emcee the festivities, and it will be streamed Live on our
Facebook
page. Come on out to honor one of our great basketball alums and cheer on the Lady Trojans to victory!
