THE SMEARED COLORS
As some of you know, I have started to paint rocks. I have never painted before, and I am having so much fun doing this. As I paint, I am learning more and more about how to make things look better.
Yesterday, I painted a rock that turned out quite nicely which featured Snoopy, Charlie Brown, and Linus standing in the rain. I shared it with family and friends. It was ready to be sealed with a spray that not only protects the paint, but makes the rock suitable for outdoors.
This morning I took several rocks I had painted outside to spray and seal them. I had a few other things to take care of and when I came back to take the rocks inside, the one that I thought I had done a good job on had the paint all running and smeared. It was a mess. No one would want it they way that it looked, so I had to repaint it. It became a fairly good copy of the original rock painting.
As I thought about that rock and the smeared paint I thought about our lives. How often do we do something that is good but then things happen and what was once good is replaced by a mess?
There is a song I used to sing called the “brush.” It speaks of a person’s life’s canvas that they were painting but it became distorted, and the colors were running because of sin in their life. Their own way had caused their life’s canvas to become ugly. But then the person gave their paint brush to Jesus and He makes repaints their life’s canvas and turns it into something beautiful.
I am so thankful for a God that cleanses us from our sin and gives us a fresh start, aren’t you? It has always amazed me that the blackness of sin is washed with the red blood of Jesus, and ends up being white as snow.
Isaiah 1:18 says, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”
When God gets finished with our life’s “painting” it is beautiful, but we have to give the paintbrush to the master painter, Jesus.
