OUR WORDS
_______________________
Okay, so you are a Christian, a born-again believer of Jesus. You may even be filled with [baptized in] the Holy Spirit. But do you truly understand the significance of every word that you ever speak? Yes, I said every single word!
Proverbs 18:21a says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue…” James 3:8 says, “…the tongue can no man time. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.” James says [via] that both blessings and curses come from the same tongue.
So, you are a staunch Christian. You are saved, but how will your reward in heaven be determined? Will you receive the crowns, or will your potential crowns and rewards be burned up like wood, hay, and stubble? Rewards for ever believer are determined at the judgment seat of Christ, the Bema seat, as it is called.
Here is what Jesus [God, the Son] says about your words spoken here on earth that will be judged when you appear at His judgment seat. Jesus said in Matthew 12:36-37, “But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”
At the Bema seat Jesus judges the worthiness of your works on earth. This includes all the words you have ever said at any time. It is true that your repentance forgives the words from being sin, but the works of those words remain to be judged for their worthiness or their value. Idle words, angry words, ill spoken words will all be considered just as your positive or well-spoken words. Your works do not vanish when you get to heaven until they are judged. Your sins have vanished, but not your works and words.
Yes, the tongue is unruly, but you must master your tongue. Discipline is needed. The Holy Spirit can help you with this if you ask Him, but ultimately it is still your choice.
Lord, help us to guard our tongues. Help us to guard our thoughts because our thoughts may become words. Thank you, Holy Spirit.
