Government Re-establishes Mandatory Random Testing

Mandatory random testing has resumed as of July 19, 2022, for travellers who qualify as fully vaccinated, arriving in Canada by air to the four major Canadian airports, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto.


The Government of Canada had previously paused mandatory random testing for those entering Canada (by air) on June 11, 2022.

Processing Times Improving for Temporary Foreign Worker Program

In a recent meeting with officials responsible for the Government of Canada's Temporary Foreign Worker Program, TIAC was informed that processing times are improving – although still a lengthy 58 days, approximately.


TIAC members looking to make use of the program for the upcoming fall and winter seasons are strongly encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible.

CDC ends its COVID Program for Cruise Ships

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ended its COVID-19 Program for Cruise Ships on Monday.


The agency transitioned to a voluntary program for COVID-19 mitigation cruise ships earlier this year, which offered recommendations on safety measures like testing and vaccination. Cruise lines that opted into the program agreed to follow those recommendations.


After a briefing from Transport Canada, Canada will not be making any changes to its current framework.

Inflation Rises as Gas Prices Soar

Statistics Canada announced recently that the rate of consumer inflations is continuing to rise, reaching 8.1% year-over-year in June, following a 7.7% gain in May. The increase was the largest yearly change since January 1983. The acceleration in June was mainly due to higher prices for gasoline, although price increases remained broad-based with seven of eight major components rising by 3% or more.

As part of the Canadian Tourism Awards, the 30 Under 30 Achiever Awards recognizes up to 30 individuals, 30 years of age and younger, working in the tourism and their contribution to the development of a vibrant and professional industry.


Recipients will be acknowledged during the Air Canada Luncheon and receive a certificate of achievement.
