Earlier this month, TIAC met with parliamentarians during its annual Hill Days advocacy initiative to raise awareness of the issues faced by the tourism industry and champion policies to rebuild the travel economy.
In 50 meetings over three days, TIAC spoke to MPs, senators, and other officials to outline its goal of building back the pre-pandemic $105 billion industry by 2025. To reach this goal, TIAC identified several priority areas, outlined here.
On the first day of meetings, Feb. 15, the federal government announced the elimination of the PCR testing requirement - a change TIAC had been advocating heavily for on behalf of its members. TIAC sees this as step in the right direction, though maintains that it's time for the government to reopen Canada by also ending antigen testing for all fully-vaccinated travellers.
TIAC continues to push tirelessly for amendments to the Tourism and Hospitality Recovery Program in advance of the scheduled March decrease in support. All of our financial support recommendations are outlined in our pre-budget submission, available in English here.
