Member Spotlight

Kimo Linders, Director, ERTCU Travel Group (En Route Travel Canada)

1. What does ERTCU Travel Group do?

We are a receptive tour operator and offer packaged, self-guided RV itineraries through international and domestic tour operators to RV renting visitors. Easiest way to describe our niche business model is that we offer the transportation and accommodation portion of a fly-drive, but with RVs and campgrounds instead of cars and hotels.

2. How’s business been this summer?

Knock on wood, but so far this season has been all we hoped for, all going very smoothly. Bookings are easily surpassing our 2019 numbers, the RV Rental companies have their fleets primed and on the road, and hats off to all the ferries and activity and tour companies that in this tight labour market are able to run their operations. And most importantly many happy customers on the road, so glad to see that again!

3. What is the most pressing issue facing your business?

Random testing on arrival is the #1 issue, especially given the confusion for our guests about what to do when they arrive late and have to pick up their RV the next day, and will be staying at a campground. To a bit lesser extent also the ArriveCan app can be improved, and preferably removed altogether, as it is especially hard to use by our international guests.

4. Why are you a TIAC Member?

We became a member in 2016 because there is no other national organization in Canada that can advocate for a company like ours, that is approachable, and where we can ask many questions that are often answered with a personal phone call. Also joined because it is critically important to present ourselves to the industry. We are doing business internationally almost exclusively and events like RVC give us a venue to meet our international clients.

5. What TIAC member benefit do you find most useful?

In a normal year that would be RVC and advocating for the tourism industry in Ottawa. The last two years however is where our membership was invaluable. Covid showed how personal our relationship with TIAC really was, which helped us through the unknown territory of grants, wage subsidies and pushing politics and politicians, but also allowed us to simply vent sometimes.

The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC) is announcing the launch of its new accreditation program.

Intended to recognize authentic Indigenous-owned tourism operations that meet a standard of excellence, successfully accredited businesses will be recognized in one of three categories of market-readiness (business, visitor or export-ready) and will be eligible to promote themselves as an “Original Original” through a licencing agreement with ITAC.

With the Original Original mark of excellence, they’ll not only be able to showcase their authenticity and quality, but also gain access to specific ITAC marketing and development initiatives.
