Coronavirus: Impact on Tourism
|
As the global community is responding to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), TIAC has been actively engaged with Government representatives and Health authorities, and monitoring information from national and international sources to provide members and industry at large with the latest updates on measures impacting our sector.

The international arrival numbers for November were released by Statistics Canada on January 23rd, 2020. Based on this information, TIAC is confident that we are on track for another record year for arrivals.

TIAC’s annual member survey was shared a few weeks ago allowing members to provide us with feedback, thoughts and opinions so that we can better serve our valued members. On January 29, 2020, TIAC President and CEO, Charlotte Bell, was invited to give a presentation to the Conservative Tourism Caucus. Led by tourism critic and long-time tourism champion Blake Richards (Banff-Airdrie), the caucus brings together elected Conservative members to discuss issues facing the industry.

On January 27, 2020 TIAC President and CEO, Charlotte Bell and Vince Accardi, TIAC Vice-President of Stakeholder Relations and Business Development represented tourism at the annual EI Commissioner Employer Forum held in Gatineau.

On February 3rd and 4th, 2020, Parliamentarians and tourism stakeholders from across Canada joined the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) on Parliament Hill for a successful two-day event. Our “Hill Days” highlighted the economic contributions of the tourism industry under the theme “Discovering the Visitor Economy”.
