TIAC on the Hill – Advocacy Days 2020
Mark your calendar for February 3-4, as we countdown to TIAC ‘s annual advocacy days on Parliament Hill. Once again, the voice of industry and our members from across the country will echo throughout Ottawa, as TIAC leads tourism stakeholders and members of the Provincial and Territorial Tourism Industry Association (PTTIA) in a series of meetings with MPs and Senators from all political parties to show them why tourism matters.

October 2019 Visitation
The international arrival numbers for October were released by Statistics Canada in late December. Based on this information, TIAC is confident that we are on track for another record year for arrivals.

It’s a new year, and a pretty new parliament in Ottawa, which means to succeed tourism’s 2020 advocacy efforts, TIAC’s outreach and target audiences must reflect the reality, and anticipate the challenges, of the new political landscape.

IRCC: Municipal Nominee Program
Early in January, CBC news reported that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin to explore a municipal nominee program, allowing municipalities to attract and retain skilled workers in smaller and mid-sized communities by aligning immigration intake with the job skills needs of local communities.

The Government of Canada is in the planning stages of its participation in Expo 2020, the World Fair that will take place in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), from October 20, 2020 to April 10, 2021.

Canada’s Expo 2020 theme, The Future in Mind, serves as a platform to promote opportunities from across Canada and throughout all sectors of society. The Canada Pavilion as part of the Expo will serve as an important meeting place for Canadian business and innovators. The week of December 1 to 7, 2020, will be dedicated to tourism and space.
