Good TIDE-ings to you!
It’s the final month of 2025 - a year that took us from Amsterdam to Hong Kong, Barcelona to Lisbon, and many cities in between. And this newsletter, I drafted in Cape Town with a picturesque view of the iconic Table Mountain just for you! 🤗
While the world slows for holiday lights, the TIDE Tribe is still riding waves: reflecting on 2025’s progress, anchoring our commitments and charting bold moves for 2026.
But first… holiday fun.

DEI Pulse
As we wrap up the year, one thing is crystal clear: DEI isn’t a side initiative, it’s a strategy.
Not a checkbox. Not a feel-good tagline.
A real driver of performance, innovation, and capital flow.
DEI = Smarter Investing, Not Softer Investing
The data has receipts:
-
A global study of 8,000+ firms found that companies with higher Diversity & Inclusion scores show statistically significant outperformance (yes, financially not just culturally). The effect is even stronger for firms with high institutional ownership. Source: MDPI, 2024
-
Leadership teams in the top quartile for gender or ethnic diversity are ~39% more likely to financially outperform their peers. Source: McKinsey
-
LP sentiment is shifting fast: roughly 65% of global LPs now say diversity is a meaningful factor when selecting managers — and many report allocating 2.6x more capital to diverse-led or diverse-owned firms when fundamentals are equal. Source: Stanton Chase
Translation:
Diverse teams don’t just “check a box.” They win deals, outperform benchmarks, and see around corners.
DEI Expands Your Universe of Opportunity
This isn’t just about performance metrics, it’s about unlocking markets, relationships, and perspectives you simply don’t access with homogeneous teams.
In the U.S., organizations like ILPA have elevated DEI within the LP–GP conversation by encouraging investors to collect diversity data, assess inclusive culture practices, and integrate these metrics into due diligence and ongoing monitoring. Across the industry, DEI is increasingly seen as a signal of strong governance, operational maturity, and long-term risk management.
And across the institutional landscape, from pension boards to endowment committees to beneficiary groups, stakeholders want to see how inclusion shows up in the people managing their capital, not just in investment decks or mission statements.
The irony? What used to be considered “impact” is now just…good investing.
Ignoring DEI Is Starting to Cost Real Money
A lack of diversity shows up in three big ways:
- Less innovation: homogeneous leadership = groupthink
- Weaker risk management: fewer perspectives means blind spots
- Missed dealflow: diverse founders, emerging markets, overlooked opportunities
DEI is officially on the main stage — whether firms are ready or not.
What Institutional Investors Should Be Doing Going Into 2026
✔ Upgrade your DDQs
Make DEI a real due diligence category: team composition, pipelines, culture, governance, retention.
✔ Allocate like you mean it
Don’t wait for “perfect conditions.” Set aside capital for diverse managers and emerging managers now — track outcomes over time.
✔ Engage with intention
Push GPs on representation, pay equity, pipeline development, and transparent reporting. GPs rise to the expectations you set.
✔ Build your own internal dashboard
If you can track performance, liquidity, pacing, and attribution…
you can track DEI too. No excuses.
✔ Communicate it upward
Boards want clarity. Beneficiaries want transparency. Show them how DEI fits into your long-term risk and return framework.
The Bottom Line for 2026
DEI isn’t going anywhere, it’s leveling up.
The firms leaning in will win on talent, perspective, innovation, and deal access.
Next year favors the GPs and LPs who treat DEI as alpha, not altruism.
Everyone else will be playing catch-up.
