TIF Meeting Packed
Lincoln Yards Plans Revealed Nov 29
General Iron Nuisance Hearing Dec 6
|
|
Dear Neighbors,
Wednesday night more than 500 people met to hear about the 800 million dollar TIF (Tax Incremental Financing) plan to support the Lincoln Yards development. They loudly objected to tax dollars being used to solely benefit private development, questioned why the TIF was presented without knowing the final plan for Lincoln Yards - and without planned spending for a public park or school. Legally a TIF must create a lasting public benefit.
The TIF covers 168 acres of develop-able land in the North Branch Corridor. The 52-acre Lincoln Yards project represents only about 1/3 of that.
The current Lincoln Yards PD application can result in building as much square footage as almost 3 Willis Towers. If all the property between North and Cortland, and Clybourn and Elston is built-out under the rules of the Framework,
the total square footage would equal almost 9 Willis Towers
.
Here
is the presentation from our preview meeting held last Thursday that shows the analysis.
When the city revealed it will introduce the TIF for passage at the December 11th meeting of the Community Development Commission, it
prompted calls
to slow down for true community input and review. I share the concern that this process must not be rushed before plans for Lincoln Yards are made public and considered. See details below for the next community meeting with Sterling Bay.

ZooLights
November 23rd - January 6th
ZooLights Presented by ComEd and Invesco QQQ returns to Lincoln Park Zoo! For easier parking or other transit options, visit on a weeknight. On warm weekend evenings, especially Saturdays, the lot fills up. On these warmer climate nights, we strongly recommend public transit, ride-share apps, or
Chicago Trolley & Double Decker Co.’s Holiday Lights Tour, the official trolley of ZooLights, which makes two convenient stops at the zoo.
