-
Prayer: Praying daily for the church’s public and confidential prayer lists, and offering Healing Prayers at Sunday worship.
-
Service: Assisting the priest with funerals and other services, preparing Welcome Bags for Room in the Inn guests, hosting a monthly coffee hour, conducting seasonal service projects, and contributing to national DOK mission and educational funds.

Lancers Will Skip February 14 Potluck
Help Us Find a Venue for our St Patrick's Potluck in March
We would like to put our energy into hosting our annual St. Patrick's Day Potluck on March 14 and to make this an inter-generational adults party and welcome our younger parish adults. However, we are in need of a new non-church site for this event which features our Shamrock & Shield music group to entertain us and lead a group sing-along. If you have ideas for or access to a venue we might use at no or nominal cost and would be willing to help host, please contact Kit Decker at 901-830-6366 or kit.decker44@gmail.com.

The Pem Field Library has been updated and brought online!
Virginia Baird has reorganized our Library to catalog recent gifts and make it even more user-friendly by including a listing of its contents online (https://www.librarycat.org/lib/stgeorgelibrary). The Library employs the Dewey Decimal classification system with the OOO’s starting to your left as you enter the library and continuing clockwise around the room, culminating in the Children’s collection on the far right. The Gibson and Marquis collections have been integrated into the main collection and designated with the initial call letters GIB and MAR respectively. Notes on the Notes
by Stephen Karr
As we begin to move into the spring, and even to dream about summer, I wanted to draw your attention to the non-liturgical musical possibilities at St. George’s. These have historically been presented by the Friends of Music, which—like so many other arts organizations—fell on hard times during COVID. We have continued to make some efforts to provide community musical events through partnerships with local organizations such as Concerts International and the Memphis Wind Symphony, and fortuitous connections to other organizations, such as Concordia College. These events have all been well attended and received with great enthusiasm, and I am hopeful that we can take that enthusiasm and turn it into a more deliberate plan to revive the Friends of Music as a ministry within St. George’s to serve both our parish family and the wider community.
I met with several parishioners who had been on the committee in years past, and they agreed that they would like to help re-establish this group within the church, but I also want to ask for those of you who enjoy music and would like to expand our offerings to get in touch with me. There are many possibilities for service: hospitality, public relations, setup and cleanup, artist liaison, fundraising, you name it! If you have any interest at all, I would be grateful for your help.
On a personal note, I would like to take the opportunity to offer a recital celebrating the 275th anniversary of J. S. Bach’s death during his birth month of March. There will be more information to come, but for now I’d be honored if you put Sunday Mar. 30 at 4:30 PM on your calendars for an afternoon of music on our beautiful organ.
Stephen Karr
Director of Music Ministry

St. George's Book Club Next Meets Tuesday,
February 11
Our February book is West With Giraffes By Lynda Rutledge
A depression-era story about a zookeeper and his young Okie driver with a past and their adventures transporting two giraffes from the east coast across the country to the San Diego Zoo in 1938. Part adventure, part historical saga, and part coming-of-age love story, the novel explores what it means to be changed by the grace of animals, the kindness of strangers, the passing of time and a story told before it is too late.
Weather permitting will meet in the Church Library at 7 pm (ZOOM option for inclement weather), bring a drink or munchies to share. If you are on the Book Club email list, you will receive a reminder and login information for joining via the online (Zoom) option. If you would like to join the group, contact Kit Decker at kit.decker@earthlink.net to be put on the email group list for the Book Club to receive announcements and meeting information.
The Book Club Schedule for reading year 2024-25 has been posted to the church website. You can access it here. A trifold brochure for the Reading Year 2024-25 with a description of Book Club, scheduled dates and a brief synopsis of each book is available for pickup in the Bookshoppe or at the meetings.

How Can We Serve Others: #StGServes | |
Room in the Inn Host Nights
We are half-way through our winter season of one of the most important ministries we do at Saint George’s now in its ninth season of serving at the Methodist Church Cottage a block south of The Commissary. On the first and third Thursdays of each month, November through March, we provide a delicious dinner, breakfast, a comfortable bed, showers, clothes washing, and a selection of needed items to those who are homeless.
Most importantly over the time we have served we have provided listening ears and comfort to literally hundreds of individuals. When our volunteers are “being in the moment” with our guests it is truly the best possible gift one can offer a “houseless” person in need.
While most of our volunteer opportunities have now filled there are few openings remaining to help. Just contact me at the email below if you have an interest.

We’ll start setting up at 3 p.m., and the meal will be served at 4 p.m. with cleanup usually finished by 5 p.m.
