Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, you are part of the tapestry that makes us one." | | A Message from the Rector | | |
People of St. George's
What a joyous occasion to celebrate our patron saint, St. George, last Sunday! Thanks to all who made it happen by cooking, by playing music, by helping with setting up or cleaning up, and thanks to everyone for attending and making it a special day! I hope it serves to relaunch a new tradition of remembering the bravery of St. George and our call to follow him in bravery to change the world.
We’ve got a lot more special events coming up in May and I hope you will add all of them to your calendar. First up, this Sunday, May 3rd, is Youth Sunday. Our youth will take over leading children’s chapel, reading the lessons, and even preaching. Come and be with us and celebrate their involvement! Second, on May 17th we will welcome Bishop Phoebe Roaf for her Episcopal visit and will have a number of confirmations, receptions and reaffirmations to celebrate. After the 10:30 service we will have a reception for those individuals as well as to welcome Bishop Phoebe, all are invited to bring an appetizer if you would like!
Finally, on May 24th we will celebrate the feast of Pentecost, the birth of our church and we’ll invite everyone to wear red to mark the day as well as joining us after the service for a Pentecost Picnic out on the Garth. We’ll have hamburgers and hotdogs and folks will be invited (by last name) to bring either a side or a dessert to share! There is so much going on this next month at St. George’s and if you would like to help with anything please contact someone in the office and we will happily welcome your assistance!
Peace,
Chris+

Children's Chapel and Youth Classes
Your children (ages 3 years old through 5th grade) and youth (6th through 12th grade) will experience an age appropriate lesson using the "Weaving God's Promises" curriculum, a curriculum designed for Episcopal churches to teach children and youth about God's promises and Christian living. Through this church school curriculum, we hope to foster the spiritual formation and growth of our children and youth in Christ’s love and mercy, to teach the spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation, and to send our children and youth out into the world as Christ’s ambassadors.

Are You Getting All of the TIP News?
Because of the length of the TIP newsletter, some email programs cut it mid-way and to see the full document you must click on the indicator or emoji indicated by your email program to expand to the rest of the document (usually located where the TIP cuts off). The TIP ends with the Prayer List, List of Staff and contact footer. If you are not seeing those items, look for the way to fully open and extend this document.

We Celebrated the Feast of our Patron St. George!
The Knights and Princess assembled for battle led by St. George, the Dragon terrorized (or frolicked amongst) the congregation, and the Dragon was vanquished by St. George and the knights! Such was the fun of bringing back the celebration of St. George's Day last Sunday with the Eucharist service and the enactment of the story of St. George by our children and youth and music by Exultemus followed by a BBQ feast on the Garth.

Notes on the Notes By Stephen Karr
Thanks to all who attended the recital with Megan Grey, Mario Batista and me at St. George’s. The audience was very warm, and both visiting artists remarked on the beauty of the nave both physically and acoustically.
Thanks also to Sanctifica, led by Andrew Proctor and voiced by Verlinda Henning, for their continued work to spread joy and fellowship that same afternoon at The Village at Germantown.
Finally, many thanks to Exultemus for bearing the sun and leading us in musical worship this past Sunday for the celebration St. George’s Day.
Please mark your calendars for the University of Alabama University Singers, who will perform at St. George’s on Saturday May 9. Their program will be themed around the earth, its beauty and its resources. It’s sure to be a wonderful evening of singing.
I am also pleased to be conducting Playhouse on the Square's production of Sweeney Todd this summer. It promises to be a great show. More information on those performances at playhouseonthesquare.org.

This is Happiness by Niall Williams
2019, Literary/Historical Fiction, Ireland,
Harking back to a simpler time, This Is Happiness is a tender portrait of a community – its idiosyncrasies and traditions, its paradoxes and kindnesses, its failures and triumphs – and a coming-of-age tale like no other. Luminous and lyrical, yet anchored by roots running deep into the earthy and everyday, it is about the power of stories: their invisible currents that run through all we do, writing and rewriting us, and the transforming light that they throw onto our world.
Bring munchies and drinks to share. Zoom option available.

We will select our books for our 2026-2027 reading year at our June meeting. I will be sending out a call for recommendations in May.

The Pem Field Library is online!
Virginia Baird has reorganized our Library to catalog recent gifts and make it even more user-friendly by including a listing of its contents online (https://www.librarycat.org/lib/stgeorgelibrary). The Library employs the Dewey Decimal classification system with the 000’s starting to your left as you enter the library and continuing clockwise around the room, culminating in the children’s collection on the far right. The Gibson and Marquis collections have been integrated into the main collection and designated with the initial call letters GIB and MAR respectively. For instructions on how to use the Library in-person or online
