As Summer arrives and we look back on May at Talbot Interfaith Shelter, we reflect on the steady strides made by our guests and explore the profound impact your support has made across our entire community. Serving all five Maryland Mid-Shore counties, TIS is committed to making a meaningful impact throughout the region. We are excited to share all of the progress made thanks to the unwavering dedication of our volunteers. Your efforts continue to provide immediate relief to those experiencing homelessness and help lay the foundation for a brighter, more secure future for many individuals and families.

Niki moves out of Easton's Promise!

There have been several accomplishments made by our guests this month! To start, we are thrilled to announce that Niki and her little one have moved out of Easton's Promise and into their very own transitional apartment. She continues to work hard at her job and displays her ongoing commitment to attending S4 Program classes like TIS Core Values while steadily working towards self-sufficiency. We are delighted to see her progress - keep it up, Niki!

The TIS Transitional Housing Program (THP) continues to open its doors to individuals and families who have completed the initial phases of our S4 Program within Easton's Promise (the family house) or Evelyn's Place (the individuals' house). The THP currently houses 12 adults, 7 families and 16 children. THP participant successes in May include three individuals securing new jobs, and three individuals continuing or restarting their education! Additional milestones include attendance to the YMCA by three guests to support their physical health goals, as well as regular weekly church attendance by several guests to foster their spiritual growth.

Some of you have not yet had

the pleasure of being introduced to one of our newer guests at Evelyn's Place: Akem!

Akem is proud to announce two major milestones this month:

1) he recently started working at The Pines, and 2) he just got his Learner's Permit! These major steps forward toward independence remind us that success comes when we take challenges one day at a time. We can't help but smile seeing how proud Akem feels about his progress in the S4 Program.

Akem gets his driver's permit!

Michael is one of our hardworking guests who regularly wakes up on the right side of the bed and reminds us that humility and generosity are gifts that we all can share with each other every day.

Born and raised in Easton, MD, Michael returned to TIS after living temporarily at the Blanchet House + Farm in Oregon. He is hands-on and helpful in terms of keeping up with maintenance and cleaning in and around Evelyn's Place. He always offers a helping hand to guests and staff.

Michael is also a trained carpenter who is looking for part-time work. We wish him the best on his job hunt and beyond!

Michael maintains the yard daily.

Special thanks to the 53 TIS Promise Keepers a.k.a. recurring donors who make a recurring monthly or quarterly gift in support of our mission. Your reliable generosity enables us to make a significant dent in the $1.3M we need in order to meet our operating budget for this year.

TIS launched a new incentive program to show our appreciation! Each month, any enrolled recurring donor is automatically be entered to win awesome monthly prizes courtesy of local businesses like Rise Up Coffee (March), Chesapeake Blooms (April), and Easton Cycle & Sport (May-June).

May-June Recurring Donor Prize

May has been a lively and fun month at the shelter and in the TIS volunteer community! Thank you to the local businesses and countless volunteers who offer their time and energy to help lift up our neighbors in need month after month - we cannot fight homelessness without your support.

We kicked off the month with a visit from Good Earth Gardeners, who cleaned up the yard at our shelter homes and even planted strawberry bushes! We are so excited to see the payoff of all of their hard work. Paula Preston returned to drop off a lovely dinner and dessert with her partner, Kevin. Larry Meyers showed up to the family shelter with a truckload of items from our Amazon Wish List.

While there are a lot of people in the Eastern Shore community who have heard of Talbot Interfaith Shelter, many of them are under the impression that TIS operates and offers its services only to people who reside in Talbot County. This is a BIG misunderstanding, as TIS serves all five of the Mid-Shore Maryland counties.

TIS offers its programs, services, shelters and transitional residences to anyone seeking shelter and willing to participate in the S4 program across the Mid-Shore. That means the name Talbot Interfaith Shelter is a little bit misleading, because our doors are open to community members and families in need in the following areas:

Caroline County

Dorchester County

Kent County

Queen Anne's County

Talbot County

Please help us spread the word to people in your neighborhoods and communities that our shelter is a safe haven for our neighbors in need in all five counties!
