This Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month, you showed up to make an incredible impact by supporting 46 of our neighbors, providing them with safe shelter and transitional housing. Your generosity goes beyond just offering a roof over their heads, you’re giving them the opportunity to break the cycle of homelessness.

Letter from the Executive Director - November 2024
|
|
TIS Executive Director, Julie Lowe, shares a heartfelt, inspiring story that captures the true essence of giving. It’s a touching reflection of the impact one person can have when they step up to help those around them. More than just a simple act of kindness, it’s a story that embodies what it truly means to be a great neighbor—a person who goes above and beyond to lend a hand and foster connections. This holiday season, we lean into the lasting power of kindness.

Our guests are thriving in the S4 Program, thanks to YOU!
LaToya, who resides in a TIS Transitional Apartment, and Nia, a guest at Evelyn's Place - attend the 80s party on November 23rd!
|
Three of our Evelyn's Place guests will be moving out of the shelter and into their own transitional apartments by the end of the year! Congratulations to our couple, Gwen and William, and to Waldo, who put in the effort to get as much out of the TIS S4 Program as they can.
Another one of our individual guests, Matiste, recently found employment at Moore's Cleaning! In addition to his new job, he also had a successful meeting with Mr. Deluca from Chesapeake College, who was able to assist with his interest in becoming a Veterinarian's Assistant. Matiste has a special love for dogs, and formerly worked at Kevertin Pet Resort.

As we progress with practical case management and real world classes, we are happy to announce that our residents started their first week of the TIS Job Readiness Class on November 21st. This follows their successful completion of the Financial Literacy Class conducted by Mrs. Cyndy Klinger on November 25th.
Shore Legal Access (formerly known as Mid Shore Pro Bono) held a session at Evelyn's Place to answer any questions our residents may have concerning consumer debt repair, expungement, and a host of other housing and legal questions. Special thanks to Dalia Miguel, who brings not only a wealth of knowledge to our shelters, but access to information in both English and Spanish.

Over at Easton's Promise, many of our guests continue to improve their budgeting and pursue sustainable career opportunities. One of our moms started a new position which deals with providing care for an individual; another secured a job interview, and a third has started a part-time position in addition to her full time job. TIS is delighted to provide support to hardworking single parents who are on a mission to provide bright futures for their children. On December 3rd, Nykol from Wellpoint will be visiting Easton's Promise to share resources and answer questions about medical care access for adults, babies, and children. She will also cover nursing help lines, special programs, specialized services, hospital care, and prescription coverage.
In the next month, guests will also have the opportunity to sit in a session with a group from ITCH: Introduction to Careers in Healthcare, thanks to our TIS volunteer and EMT, Bill Wilson. The ITCH team will share information about EMS and careers in healthcare for both adults and teenagers living at TIS. Thank you to our Transitional Housing Case Manager, Kirstie, for this invaluable programming!

Thank you for making all of these successes and learning opportunities possible for our guests at TIS.
You are changing lives every single day!

Come out and enjoy the extended hours of the galleries and have an artistic adventure! New exhibits, gallery owners serving lite bites and refreshments, meet artists or special guests. This monthly tradition runs from April through December and takes place in Easton town center.
|
Save the date! The wildest fundraising night of the year will be held on Saturday, April 26th, 2025 at the Waterfowl Building in downtown Easton. Last year's battle raised $112,000+ to help fight homelessness on the Mid Shore, so start gathering your team and get ready to rock out!

THANK YOU!
Thank you for joining TIS for a bodacious night at Big Hair, Big Hearts: TIS 80s Night on November 23rd! We danced through the decades at the Elks Lodge in Easton under the neon lights, and are so grateful to everyone who came out - dressed to perfection - to support and uplift our homeless neighbors.
Congratulations to our Costume Contest winner - Shelley Larrimore!
Congratulations to our Big Hair Contest winner - Richard Harrison!
Fun fact: Shelley and Richard are a couple who love to have fun and support their community, in addition to running the BCPC Club on Tilghman Island, where they partner with Tomcat Solutions and SpayNow to look after the local feral cat colony.

We need YOUR help!
Join us in impacting our community by volunteering at Talbot Interfaith Shelter in Easton, Maryland. By dedicating just one day a month of your time, you could contribute to meal preparation, accepting donations, and answering the phone and doors while our team is hard at work. Volunteering with us is a rewarding experience and a powerful way to demonstrate your commitment to social responsibility and community support.
Our dedicated Volunteer Coordinator, Jesse Johnson, will be delighted to provide information regarding upcoming volunteer opportunities and other helpful details. To get involved, visit talbotinterfaithshelter.org, call 410-690-3120 or click the "Email Jesse" button above. November is always a busy month for Team TIS, and we are happy to report that our community showed up during Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Month! We kicked off the month with Dine and Donate events at Doc's Downtown Grille and Legal Assets. On November 7th, 14th and 21st, restaurant goers enjoyed meals at these two popular Easton hotspots, while 10% of the proceeds from the nights were donated directly to TIS! On the 15th, we enjoyed lunch at The Ivy, where 20% of proceeds for the day were donated to TIS. Thank you to these wonderful businesses for answering the call for support.
We had an absolute BLAST at Big Hair, Big Hearts: 80s Night, dancing the night away to the tunes of Not Enough Credit. Between the Pac Man and Mortal Kombat arcade games, the lively music, and the incredible costumes and wigs that guests showed up in, we enjoyed every minute of this rad night!
Our guests are blessed daily with delicious meals, prepared with love by our dedicated volunteers like Miles River Yacht Club, who dropped off 48 Thanksgiving meals for both the shelter homes and transitional apartments!
TIS' maintenance dream team, Will and Jesse, prepared 2 bedrooms for new families at Easton's Promise, with one room also getting a remodeled bathroom. Other progress they've made this month includes installing at TV in the kitchen at Evelyn's Place, and getting a transitional apartment ready for someone to move to in the coming weeks.
Take a look at the slide show below to see just a few of our Team TIS highlights from the month of November!

You can Adopt a Family for the Holidays!
The TIS Adopt-A-Family Program is a heartwarming way to bring joy and hope to families and individuals experiencing homelessness on Maryland’s Mid-Shore during the holiday season. This special initiative invites individuals, families, businesses, or groups of friends and coworkers to join together and make the holidays brighter for our neighbors who reside in the TIS shelter homes and transitional apartments.
By "adopting" a family, you provide essential support to help cover the costs of housing, food, and critical resources, ensuring that the people, especially the children, residing at TIS can experience the warmth and magic of the season. Your contributions not only meet immediate needs but also give these families a sense of community, hope, and belonging during this festive time of year.
Gathering a group of loved ones or colleagues to adopt a family is a meaningful way to celebrate the holidays by giving back. Your collective support helps to provide shelter, stability, and essential services through the S4 Program (Shelter, Stability, Support, and Success). When you Adopt A Family, you become part of a compassionate effort to spread holiday cheer and create lasting change for those who need it most. Together, we can make this a season of joy, renewal, and hope.
Adopt-a-Family for the Christmas holidays! Please email Lisa Niles at Lisaniles@talbotinterfaithshelter.org or call (410) 253-5414 if interested.

Consider volunteering, donating to TIS, or sharing information about TIS's mission with your friends, family and colleagues. Together, we can create lasting change and ensure that everyone has enough to eat and a safe place to call home.

TIS Holiday Appeal 2024
The holidays are upon us, and we are filled with gratitude for the incredible support of our community. This year, we’re thrilled to announce a $50,000 match opportunity! Every dollar you donate will be doubled, thanks to the generosity of our matching donor, who has asked to remain anonymous.
This is your chance to make twice the impact in helping local families and individuals find shelter, support, and hope. Your contributions allow us to provide the resources our neighbors need to work toward self-sufficiency.
Be sure to check your mailboxes in the coming weeks for our Holiday Appeal! Inside, you’ll find stories of transformation and hope that your support makes possible. We hope you’ll join us in making this matching challenge a success!
