Administrator's Corner

Dear Parents,

Please note that April 27th will be a half day for students in DPS. Teachers will be taking part in a statewide rally of educators. Please see Tom Boasberg's letter here.

On the 27th, we will end school after 4th period, and students will still get lunch from 11:20-12:04 p.m. Students will need to leave campus after lunch. Transportation will still be available and the Shakespeare Festival will still be going on as well downtown. Also, after school activities and practice will resume at their scheduled times.

All of the Pep Assembly events that we had planned on Friday will be moved to Thursday the 26th, as well as the Talent Show.

Queridos padres,

Kudos Korner
The JROTC Color Guard and #1 Honor Platoon recently were given the opportunity to perform at the Pepsi Center for the Annual Colorado Sports Breakfast and Fundraiser hosted by the regional Boy Scouts of America.  The event was attended by over 900 people representing the Denver/Colorado sports community, area businesses and sports figures from various colorado professional teams.  The Color Guard opened up the event with Rebecca Rutt singing the National Anthem and then the Honor Platoon performed a routine to entertain the attendees.
Afterwards the teams were treated to breakfast in their very own private skybox at the Pepsi Center. Way to go!
Thomas Jefferson High School's Honor Platoon Drill Team   r eturned Sunday April 15th from the Army Drill National Championships held in Louisville KY.  The 2018 National Championship Meet set a record this year as the largest individual service drill meet ever held in the US with 97 teams competing in the two catagories.   The team finished 5th overall for the meet, placing as high as 4th in the individual events.
The Honor Platoon now begins preparing for the All-Services National Championships held in Daytona FL 4-6 May. Great work, Spartans!

Mental Health and Social/Emotional Tips
Did You Know?
What you eat can IMPROVE YOUR MOOD!

Work these foods in to your daily diet to lower stress, calm your body when it is feeling cranky, and to feel happier!

1)    Magnesium : Magnesium calms the nervous system, which in turn can help you feel less anxious. It             also helps lower risk of diabetes and helps metabolize sugar in your blood. Magnesium is found in:
-        Bananas
-        Almonds
-        Pumpkin and sunflower seeds
-        Cashews
-        Flax seeds
2)    Zinc : The parts of your brain that regulate mood rely on neurons that need zinc to function their best!           Research has also found that zinc can help lessen feelings of depression. Zinc can be found in:
-        Spinach
-        Swiss Cheese
-        Oysters
-        Beef
-        Pork
-        Chickpeas
3)    Cocoa: The cocoa in chocolate hits the same receptors in your brain as endorphins, which is why it             has a way of calming you and making you feel happy. Cocoa can be best accessed through:
-        Look for 70% cocao on dark chocolate labels, and limit yourself to no more than 1 ounce/day
