Administrator's Corner

Happy Monday TJ!

Huge "thank you" to all our families, students, teachers, and staff that made the first week back in-person successful. We were so happy to see our students again and the students were great. They were adaptable, patient, and worked hard. They also got in a lot of extra steps having to navigate the one-way halls. Thank you, TJ Spartans!

TJ In-Person Learning Updates
For those of you who will be coming in-person, there has been a change to cohorts. We are now balancing our classes by last names A-L and M-Z. Please see the updated schedule below.
What should students bring?
  • Computer with charger
  • Mask
  • Water bottle
  • Headphones with mic
As a reminder, any student who does not feel well should stay home. Students will need to fill out this form and show staff proof of the health screening on a phone before entering the building:https://live.safeaccess.app/en/locations/pM3hnjQ/attest
Please use the Hall Maps to get a better understanding of directional routes in the halls. We will have additional videos showing students how to navigate the halls posted in Advisement, the Spartan Edition, and in the Newsletter.
Semester 2 Weekly Class Schedule
Please note: this is NOT a different schedule than the one provided in the first two weeks of January. It is a more "user-friendly" readable version of the same class schedule.
Arrival and Dismissal Information for In-Person Learning
TJ Hallway Maps for In-Person Learning
As we prepare for some students returning next week, please make note of the one-way traffic flow that will need to happen in the building. Thanks!

Senior Showcase - February 12th Deadline for Submissions!
Calling all Seniors!

We need your help and participation in creating a fun, memorable event to highlight your talent, humor, and personalities.

This mock pageant will be called Senior Showcase and will be open to seniors only. Our plan is to create a virtual event, with the possibility of going live or partially live if and when restrictions change in Denver.

Specifics will unfold, but the plan is to include an opening musical number, an introduction of contestants, an interview component, a "talent" (real or silly), and a "making of Senior Showcase" mockumentary. The committee, made up of parents and TJ faculty, is open to suggestions.

We have a tentative date to present Senior Showcase on April 7, 2021.

There are many ways to be involved. Please consider the following options:
  • Be a contestant
  • MC the event
  • Create and narrate the mockumentary
  • Provide technical assistance
To participate, you must have 93% overall attendance and a minimum GPA of 2.5.

If you are interested in any of the above roles, please create a 1-2 minute video explaining to the committee why you are interested in participating in Senior Showcase and how you feel you can contribute to its success. Please submit to dpa@two24media.com no later than February 12. If your file is too large, you may submit it to this dropbox address: https://www.dropbox.com/request/lHBFrVTyPzfCZl71sv9b?oref=e
Please film your video horizontally (16 X 9).

Once the committee has compiled a list of students who are interested in participating we will determine the number of contestants, MC's, etc.

Senior Showcase will involve a commitment of your time and talent, but our hope is that it will be a happy memory of TJ you can take with you as you graduate and move forward to other endeavors. Even if you do not wish to be directly involved in the event, we encourage you to mark your calendars for a virtual or in person viewing.

If you have any questions, feel free to email Lisa Allen at allenlisa85@yahoo.com

Thank you!

Food and Nutrition Services
The FNS (Food and Nutrition Services) team had a meeting this morning with folks from the Colorado Food Cluster (CFC).  CFC has launched a new initiative to deliver 7-day meal boxes with (7) suppers and (7) snacks to families in Denver.  They are currently working with various charter schools, but they have the capacity to expand to other DPS schools.

FNS is not "involved" with this effort as we are not the vendor providing the suppers/snacks.  However CFC is working directly with DPS schools to sign up families at no charge.  The meals are available for kids ages 6-18 years old.  Below is the sign up form and is available in English and Spanish.

In an effort to provide GT students and their families with the resources and supports needed to begin/complete their Advanced Learning Plan (ALP), the TJHS GT Site Team has created a Google Classroom for each GT grade level.  The title and code for each grade level is listed below:

TJHS Gifted and Talented 2024 Cohort - doyqstu
TJHS Gifted and Talented 2023 Cohort - b7vpvfn
TJHS Gifted and Talented 2022 Cohort - orzg7to
TJHS Gifted and Talented 2021 Cohort - by7mjwi

The TJHS GT Site Team, working alongside our District GT Partners, has included resources, websites and documents to help you complete your ALP goals.  Keep in mind that there are affective as well as academic goals.  At this time, students should only focus on the Goals / Advanced Learning Plan section and not worry about the badges right now.  We don't want you to get in there and feel overwhelmed.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Tate, our Dean Instruction and GT Point of Contact at adria_tate@dpsk12.org

Our District GT Partner is Brian Beard, brian_beard@dpsk12.org, and you may receive GT newsletters from his office with internship and university opportunities.

Did You Know...?
Clothes to Kids
Clothes to Kids of Denver (CTKD) provides FREE clothing to children and youth who are in need or in  crisis. To shop, students must live in Metro Denver, be age 3 - 21 and be enrolled in school (remote or  in-person) or working toward a GED.
Our wardrobe includes 5 outfits, 1 coat, 1 pair of shoes, 1 bra (optional) and 5 pairs each of new  underwear and new socks. Students are invited to select clothing in a welcoming, store-like setting or  can order a wardrobe for contactless curbside pick-up.
We are very excited to have in person shoppers in our store and are taking extra precautions to protect  the health and safety of our visitors, volunteers and staff.
Take a look at our COVID-19 Safety Procedures to learn more.
For families who would prefer a contactless option, we are continuing to offer wardrobes via Curbside  Service. This option enables parents and caregivers to request a wardrobe for any student in need, and  our staff will shop on their behalf.
Families wishing to shop in person or request a wardrobe for pick-up should call us at 720-379-4630 or  email us at appointment@clothestokidsdenver.org for an appointment. Up-to-date phone hours are on  the Shop With Us page of our website.
No Referral Required! No matter how families choose to shop, we have temporarily loosened our  referral requirements and are providing wardrobes to anyone who says the young people in their  households are in need of our services, no questions asked.
Happy 2021! We are back in action and have returned to normal operating hours:
Tuesdays - Fridays 9:00 - 4:00
Saturdays 9:00 - 3:00
Sundays & Mondays Closed
