Strong demand among renters and a dearth of newly built apartment buildings have led to a robust multifamily investment landscape—especially on Chicago’s North Side. These were among the key insights that Joe Smazal of Interra Realty, a client of Taylor Johnson, shared with Multi-Housing News. In an MHN Executive Council piece focused on this year’s surprising multifamily trends, Smazal explained how owners’ increasing willingness to sell and buyers’ appetite for assets below replacement costs should make 2024 one of the best vintages for multifamily acquisitions.
