Serving the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle, Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson Counties
BRIEFING: The week's news was preoccupied with the steep rise in COVID cases throughout the nation. Though the District's levels of infection currently do not reflect the trend, BRHD and our partners are monitoring not only our positivity rate, but the case incidence as well. Governor Northam also announced amendments to COVID safety executive orders 63 and 67, which includes restricting social gathering size and expanding the mask-wearing mandates. As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, safety measures should continue to be observed to help slow the spread of COVID-19. The Albemarle Ambassador Expansion project has successfully reached essential businesses in construction, farming, landscaping, and cleaning to inform owners of best practices on returning to work after COVID positive cases. And December testing sites have now been announced, with expanded locations throughout the District for the month.
Governor Northam's Executive Update
Governor Northam announced last Friday amendments to Executive Orders 63 and 67 COVID safety mandates. At this week's press conference he reiterated the need to combat the rising spread of positivity with appropriate measures; mainly:

• Limiting social gatherings to 25 people (down from 250)
• Requiring all residents, 5 years and older, to wear masks indoors in public (down from 10 years and older)
Stopping the sale of alcohol on premises at restaurants and food establishments at 10pm.
• Limiting spectator size to 25 people or 30% capacity for recreational sports.
• Stepping up enforcement and making the majority of best practices from the original executive orders now requirements .
Thanksgiving Safety Reminders
Thanksgiving is a time when many people travel to be with loved ones and give thanks. This year, we have just as much to be thankful for, but should be creative in how we express those feelings. We strongly recommend minimizing traveling as much as possible during this holiday. If you must travel, it is recommended to quarantine 14 days before and after travel. Also, consider minimizing risks of transmission by to:
  • Wearing a face covering and maintaining at least 6 feet from others
  • Washing your hands frequently and/or using hand sanitizers of at least 60%
  • Hosting virtual dinner parties in place of large gatherings
  • Bringing your own food to dinner or ordering in from your favorite curbside pickup
  • Watching parades and sporting events on television instead of in-person
  • Shopping online when possible. Otherwise, continuing to observe best practices when shopping in person
Albemarle Safety Ambassador Expansion Updates
Early this fall, BRHD partnered with Albemarle County to expand their COVID Safety Ambassador program in an effort to inform the County's essential business owners and managers of best practices during quarantine, isolation, and return-to-work protocols. As of last week, 68 businesses had been visited and successfully engaged with the Ambassadors with nearly 40 more expected to be reached in the coming weeks. The partnership aims to protect job sites' productivity and workers' health, as well as discourage unnecessary delays in getting employees back to work. If you support essential workers in any capacity and would like further information on the program, contact the Health Department project lead Jen Fleisher.
