This week the district is at a 6.6%, 7-day COVID-19 positivity rate which is lower than the Commonwealth's rate of 7.3%. Area cooling centers offer relief as summer weather pushes the heat index to record highs. The Virginia Department of Health warned of the dangers of extreme heat - such as heat exhaustion, heat stroke and even death. Localities in the district recorded high temperatures this week forcing many vulnerable residents inside. Greene County has opened a cooling center at the County Administration Building and Fluvanna and Louisa both have temporary centers. The City of Charlottesville is maintaining two cooling centers at Key Recreation Center and Tonsler Recreation Center. Masks are required at all locations, physical distancing requested, and bottled water is provided.

Latinx Outreach and COVID-19 Campaign
|
National and local data points to higher COVID-19 positivity rates for Latinx and African-American community members. TJHD is ramping up its COVID-19 mitigation messaging for Spanish speakers with the help of community navigators, health workers, organizers, and liaisons, as well as bilingual volunteers and students. We are currently
identifying recurring themes, with the aim of creating a relevant, trustworthy, dynamic campaign that can support COVID-19 outreach. If you work with Latinx community members in any capacity, we want your input!
