TJHD BRIEFING: This week the district is at a 4.9% 7-day COVID-19 positivity rate which is lower then the Commonwealth's rate of 5.1% but it's important that everyone continues to wear face masks, stand six feet apart, and wash hands often. The TJHD data portal has been updated to provide more data, including a breakdown of educational facility outbreaks. TJHD launches mobile flu clinics starting October 8 and reminds everyone to get their flu vaccine early this season. Hard to believe but Halloween and Dia de las muertos are right around the corner. The CDC and VDH have published guidelines for safe celebrations. Voting polls are open in the District and we remind you that exercising your right to vote is the great way to stay in shape this year. Last, TJHD free testing sites expand walk-in capacity and will run throughout the district for the month of October.

New "dashboards" on the TJHD COVID-19 Data Portal provide more detailed information about COVID-19 in TJHD. The dashboards include TJHD Overview (cases, hospitalizations, fatalities, demographics);
Localities; Outbreaks (facility types, long term care, etc.); Testing (testing encounters and positivity rate); and the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail. TJHD expanded the dashboard today to breakdown types of Educational Facility outbreaks - Child Care, K-12, College/University.

Flu Clinics Start October 8 |
|
Getting a flu shot is the best way to prevent from getting the flu and is especially important during COVID-19. Getting a flu shot flu vaccine won't protect against COVID-19 but it will help prevent flu illnesses, hospitalizations, and deaths. It will also help conserve medical resources for the care of people with COVID-19.

Tricks for Safely Celebrating Halloween and Día de los Muertos |

As we round the corner to October, the fall holidays kick into gear. This week, the CDC and VDH published their guidelines for COVID-19 safe Halloween and Día De Los Muertos celebrations. This year it's time to not only be creative in making costumes but in the festivities themselves! In general, the more closely people interact with each other and the longer the interaction lasts, the higher the risk of COVID-19. Consider the risk of activities when you're planning this year's festivities:
Lowest risk: carving pumpkins at home, decorating your house, having a Halloween movie night with your household, scavenger hunt around your house.
Moderate Risk: trick-or-treating with distancing strategies in place, stopping at only houses where individuals are wearing masks, attending small outdoor gatherings.
Highest Risk: trick-or-treating at a large number of houses or visiting multiple neighborhoods where participants go door to door, attending parties or events that may become overcrowded with poor physical distancing, going on hayrides or tractors with people who are not in your household.

Voting is the Best Exercise |
Flex your civic muscle by exercising your right to vote. Early voting site information can be found at each website below and mail-in (absentee) ballots are being accepted at all locations:
Charlottesville residents can vote at City Hall Annex (7th Street near the Pavilion) from 8:30-4:30pm, Monday – Friday.
Albemarle residents can vote at the 5th Street County Office building.
Greene County is open for early voting Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some extended and weekend hours.
Louisa County early voting Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m, with some extended and weekend hours.
