11 Days and Counting: Texas Legislative Update
With just 11 days remaining in the 86th Texas Legislative Session, and deadlines looming in the House, it is crunch time for many bills. Saturday, May 18 is the last day for house committees to report senate bills and senate joint resolutions in order for them to have any chance of being placed on a house calendar.  Read more 

Summer Leadership Programs
TLA is offerring two leadership programs to all members this summer. The Executive Leadership Immersion (ELI) program, is for people who are more than five years into their career. This program is set up to help inspire others, set purposeful goals, execute strategic visions, and create cultures of excellence. Learn more

Launch, TLA’s newest leadership program, is designed for library professionals with less than five years of experience. Participants will learn more about effective networking and leadership skills that can serve them throughout their careers. Learn more

Texas Indie Author Project
The Texas Indie Author Project is a contest which creates opportunities for indie-published authors, and gives librarians a chance to engage with a growing group of fresh literary voices and play an active role in the discovery and promotion on new works. In partnership with Library Journal, the statewide contest will accept submissions of self-published Young Adult and Adult Fiction, with winners in each category to be recognized as the top self-published books in the state. The contest ends May 31. Learn more

TALL Texans Class of 2019
The Texas Library Association is proud to announce the TALL Texans Leadership Development Institute Class of 2019. These individuals were selected from a pool of dynamic Texas library leaders to study strategic planning, risk-taking, conflict negotiation, persuasion, coaching, ethics, personal career planning, and more. Nationally-known leadership experts Maureen Sullivan and Jack Siggins will lead the Institute. The class will also be supported by six mentors who are leaders in the Texas library community.
