About a month ago, Vicki, one of our Direct Support Professionals took Brenda, one of our friends we support, shopping to the outlet stores. They decided to take a trip to the Utz factory store that day too. At the store, Brenda picked out a cup, a shirt, snacks and drink, but when she approached the register to check out, her debit card was not working with their machine. The line was growing long behind Vicki and Brenda, and Kelly the woman working the register went to get a manager. Upon arrival, the manager too, was also having an issue getting Brenda's card to work to complete the transaction. Assured that their was more than enough money on the card to cover the near twenty dollar transaction, Vicki and Brenda patiently waited. When the machine still would not work, the kind and generous clerk, Kelly appeared again. Taking her own personal credit card, she ran it through the machine happily, so Brenda could get her items.
"Kelly at the register was so sweet, and she paid for everything. She insisted! And then Brenda and Kelly gave one another a big hug," explained Vicki.
After they left, Brenda wanted to do something kind for Kelly. Vicki, Kym, and Brenda made up something to take her. It was a gift bag that had a shirt, a TLC cup, and some other special goodies for her. The friendship continued to bloom, and Vicki and Brenda were invited to Utz's "100 year cook out celebration!"
