Journey to 2021

Mark your calendars for July 20-24, 2020 for a special sneak preview of the 2020 Transplant Games being held next July 16-22, 2021. This terrific week-long virtual event titled, Journey to 2021 will include a comprehensive tour of venues, as well as other activities connected to what we expect to be the largest and most boisterous Transplant Games yet. See the Zoom of Athletes from many of the state transplant teams, and listen to songs from some of next year’s Lyrics for Life competitors. And don’t miss the virtual, live trivia competition, and our daily presentation of Stories of Courage. Finally, there will be two workshop presentations by our hospital partners, Hackensack Meridian Health and RWJBarnabas Health. Watch for details on days and times in the coming weeks on the Transplant Games of America Facebook page and the Transplant Life Foundation website.
COVID-19 and the Transplant Community

A coalition of transplant organizations combined efforts, and conducted a COVID-19 survey over the last month. There was a tremendous response to the survey from a broad spectrum of recipients, living donors, donor families and medical professionals. With data from over 1,200 respondents, the COVID-19 coalition will be working to develop resources, programs, and a toolkit to assist our transplant community with living in a post-COVID world. Special thanks to the American Transplant Foundation, The Chris Klug Foundation, the Keep Swimming Foundation, NJ Sharing Network, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, The John Brockington Foundation, and WELD.

Clark Beck Sr.

Dr. Clark Eugene Beck, Sr. of Dayton, Ohio passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2020, at age 91. Clark, a long time member of Team Ohio, received a kidney transplant in 1972. He was always grateful for this amazing gift of life. Clark participated in the Transplant Games for many years, winning the Oldest Athlete Award multiple times. Clark will be truly missed, and will always be remembered in the transplant community.
David Goldsmith

Transplant Life Foundation is saddened to report that David Goldsmith from Team Oklahoma passed away earlier this week. As co-
manager for the team, David was a leader and an inspiration to all of us. Postings and pictures on Facebook often showed David at the Transplant Games, as well at other fundraising and awareness events in the State of Oklahoma. Information on services was not available for this newsletter. Details to follow. Please keep this amazing friend of the transplant community in your thoughts and prayers.

TransplantNATION magazine’s Passages page pays tribute to many milestones reached by individuals in our community. We intend to share news of births, marriages, anniversaries, transplant anniversaries, deaths, and any other significant announcements that celebrate the gift of life or acknowledge the support an individual(s) has given to the organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation world.

If you have a tribute you would like to share in an upcoming Passages page, please send your information (75 words or less) to Josh Sweedyk at

Transplant Life Foundation and Transplant Games of America would like to thank you for your support of our mission. The work that we do to educate the public and bring awareness about donation and transplantation would not be possible without your help and commitment.
