Hello Little School Alum Community!

It's a big time for TLS and our alums, with Outgrowing, high school grads getting ready for college –  and some even spending their summer at TLS. Take a look below at some of the past, present and future goings-on in our community.

Alum Spotlight: Ryan Long

Ryan was at TLS from preschool all the way through fourth grade. Then he went to The Overlake School for fifth through 12th grade. Ryan went to Pomona College, one of the Claremont schools, in Southern California, where he was also a college athlete/baseball player. He graduated in 2021 with a degree in politics economics and philosophy.

He was set to go to Georgetown University for a masters degree in American government. Ryan decided to play summer baseball in the Cape Cod league, and that’s where he was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles. He was able to defer his acceptance to Georgetown for a few year, while he tries out life as a professional baseball player. He is planning to go to law school eventually.

Ryan's mom, Liz, says, "His time at TLS was very special and helped define the person he is today. He was allowed to explore and learn in a way and with a time frame that was meaningful and powerful for him." 

Congratulations, Ryan! We'll be cheering for you.
Alum Faculty Highlight:
Deirdre Reedy

TLS alumnus and current parent, Sarah Gallien, is also an accomplished writer and member of the TLS Alumni Association Board. Sarah reached out to former TLS teacher and library assistant Deirdre Reedy for this Alum Faculty Highlight.
Commemorating Community
The Little School campus looks a bit different than it did a few years ago, with the completion of the renovations to the Meadows, Woods and Cedars buildings and the addition of the beautiful new Rivers Building. The final touch of this project is at the heart of our campus, the Commemorate Community pavers.

There are messages and jokes from community members whose connections to TLS span nearly all the years the school has been in existence. Feel free to stop by and take a look at the pavers and have a look around. As the song goes, "We've been waiting for you to come to this place."
Before, After and After That
Since the first groundbreaking on our Bellevue campus in April 1972, we've seen a lot of changes to our buildings and our landscape. First came the Woods Building, and the Big Field transformed over time. It's amazing to look back on all the changes and know that, through it all, The Little School spaces have been thoughtfully designed to allow students to explore their interests and the world around them.

We hope you enjoy reminiscing with these pictures of TLS through the years.
What's Next, 2014 Outgrowers?

It's almost time for the 2014 Outgrowers to hit the road and head off to college. Our Outgrowers have big futures ahead, and we couldn't be more proud!

Aidan Richter will attend Colorado College and be on the Swim and Dive Team.

Anni Corrin will attend Washington State University.

Gus Mitchell will attend the University of Denver – Go Pioneers!

Meera Kalhan will attend Boston University this fall.

Nathan Apfel will attend Yale University, possibly majoring in physics or economics.

Sam Sakaguchi will attend California Polytechnic State University San Louis Obispo and study mechanical engineering.

Sawyer Anderson will attend University of California at Irvine, with tentative plans to major in chemistry.

Alum Counselors at Summer Camp
This is the first summer in a long time that TLS has hosted our own summer camp, and the cherry on top is that TLS alums are part of our counseling crew. This group of high school students and recent grads includes Cooper Kroll, Gus Mitchell, Hannah McConnell, Meera Kalhan, Sam Sakaguchi and Teresa Krauss-McClurg. It is such a honor to see this lovely group of alums every day as they help make memories for our camp attendees.
