Bob Costas Headlines an "Awarding" 16th Annual Executive Speaker Forum
By Stephen Beriau, Co-Chair, Executive Speaker Forum Committee
| |
|
Celebrating our 16th annual Premier Event, TMA Chicago welcomed 612 members and friends leading to our largest attendance since the event’s inception. With many individuals joining from our sister TMA Chapters, our premier event continues to grow every year.
Our guest, Bob Costas, has had an illustrious career as a sportscaster and commentator with one of his generation’s most distinctive voices. His ability to charm an audience and give pointed opinions was felt throughout the interview. A special thanks to Jamie Sprayregen as moderator.
We’d also like to thank Hilco and Harney Partners, the Keynote and Premier sponsors, for their support. Without them, and all the table sponsors, this exceptional event would not have been possible. Below is a video link highlighting the remarkable evening. We encourage you to share your experience on your social media pages.
2025 planning is already underway, and we look forward to having you join us again. Any individuals interested in joining the committee can reach out to Jamie Cote, Gordy Gouveia, Stephen Beriau, Tim Serritella or the chapter office.

Success Through Service: Closing the Year and Focusing on Yourself
Jack O'Connor, Levenfeld Pearlstein LLC
| |
|
I am humbled and honored to have served as Chapter President in 2024. We accomplished so much this year; with record attendance at many of our events, connecting with one another to elevate ourselves and the industry, and finding collective Success Through Service. I’m proud of what we’ve done together this year.
The final pillar of service that I want to focus on in 2024 is how serving ourselves is just as important to our personal success as serving others.
I personally bristle at the overuse of the phrase “self care,” in recent years as a stand-in for many folks (myself included) to justify bad habits, rather than finding the substantive wisdom of how caring for ourselves is imperative to being able to show up for others in the best way possible. Big wave surfer, Laird Hamilton, accomplished a very rare feat. Not only did he transcend his surfing sport, but he has become a legendary sports icon recognized across many sports and fitness domains. It started out by him and his group of friends working tirelessly for many years to master surfing the biggest waves on the planet, using motorized pull-in techniques, and developing special boards and hydrofoils to allow them to surf ever larger waves.
The turnaround industry started feeling tectonic plates in the economy move in 2008, which were met by multiple tsunami waves of government funded debt, which temporarily displaced the majority of the risk from the economy to the government. As we enter 2025 the weight of this debt and misappropriated capital is causing these tectonic plates to move once again with the appointment of Elon and Vivek to reign in government spending.
