Bargaining Updates

GSU/Viterra bargaining productive, settlement yet to be reached

The bargaining committee for GSU Locals 1 and 2 met with Viterra management on February 12 and 13.

According to GSU general secretary Hugh Wagner, the bargaining meetings were productive but a settlement has yet to be reached.

"The Union bargaining committee is planning to convene a conference call with Local 1 delegates on February 21," Wagner said. "The purpose of the conference call is to update and consult with the delegates in relation to key bargaining issues."

"Following the call with the delegates I will be contacting Viterra management to arrange for a follow up to the February 13 bargaining meeting," Wagner said.

Local 4 (Grain Millers) bargaining committee had first round of negotiations with Company

The Local 4 bargaining committee and staff representative Steve Torgerson met with the Company's bargaining committee on February 12 and 13  as negotiations began.

Bargaining proposals were exchanged by both sides and frank and open discussions have yielded some understanding of where the Company sits. "Although we had 2 good days of negotiations and have some understanding of what the main issues are for the Company," says Steve Torgerson "we still have lots of work to do."

The next round of negotiations will take place from March 26 to 28 back in Yorkton. Updates will follow.

If members of Local 4 want direct email updates around negotiations they can send their email address to Steve Torgerson.

Why You Should Do the Right Thing, and How to Do It

One of the hardest things to do in life is to do the right thing. What you think is the right thing. Not what you friends, family, teachers, boss and society thinks is the right thing.

What is the right thing? That's up to you to decide. Often you have a little voice in your head that tells what the right thing is. Or a gut feeling.

It might tell you to get up from the couch, stop eating those snacks and go to the gym instead. Sometimes you will put on your exercise clothes and go. Sometimes you will not.

It might tell you to stop sulking and feeling like a victim with everything against you and instead look at the opportunities and take action. Sometimes you will. Sometimes you will not.
